the red lights come up soon as i turn on the console and no screen comes on.

My console has the same problem, it plays fine for a few minutes, maybe 5, max, then it shuts off the video and the two lights by the disc drive (players 1 and 3 if your xbox is horizontal) start blinking red. I've been told it may be an overheating problem, but I can't understand why it's just now happening. I've had my 360 for 1 year in December, and it's only happened recently. Hmm..

Suddenly while you are playing you get two quadrants of the ROL (Ring of Light) around the power button of you Xbox 360 console flashing red, this is an indicator that your Xbox 360 console is overheating some how.

That will be due to one of the following reasons:

  1. You set your Xbox 360 console near to any heat source or electrical device.
  2. Your xbox 360 console is not set in a well ventilated area.
  3. There is something blocking the fan openings on your Xbox 360 console.
  4. You are using the Xbox 360 external fan, and basically that's a third party accessory so it sometimes harm the Xbox 360 console.
So, try eliminating all these reasons & if you are still experiencing the same behaviour then you have to contact Xbox 360 customer support to exchange your console or even to get it repaired.

Take your xbox 360 and blow it in a thousand peices!! I hate xbox now, we've gotten 3 sytems now.. guess what none of them work.So i agree with the comment earlier they should join with sony before going out of buissness.. this is a waste of money that many people don't have to throw down the drain.

What you have to do is let the console cool down. when 2 lights light up it is overheated.

SOURCE: 2 red lights fans don;t work

Hey Marsh2Man,

It's not your fans that's causing the problem. It's the XBOX itself. The Xboxes generally overheat and this has been a big problem for Microsoft. Alot of companies are actually reflowing these system, reheating the solder under the chips allowing them to connect back down to the points on the board.

You will need your system reflowed. Contact a repair shop.

4 flashing red lights is a video cable problem. Unplug and replug the cable make sure it is snug. If this does not work try a new cable
If that still fails then it is hardware issue and we'd have to suggest some fixes from there. Let us know

SOURCE: 2 red lights start flashing

Two red lights flashing on the Xbox 360 means that the system is encountering overheating issues. What you can do is to let your console cooldown for about half an hour and you are ready to go. Also, if you are connected to a Hi-definition output and running on 1080p, you might want to downscale it to 720p as the console generates less heat in lower resolution. Hope this helps..

when did you buy the cooler?

the 2 red lights only appear on the left side of the turn on for your xbox when you have played for a big amount of hours on your xbox i recommend not playing the system for a day so it allows it too cool down if you have this problem if it persist contact a support manager at Microsoft

What does 2 flashing lights mean on an xbox 360?

The two red flashing lights on the left side of the circle indicate the thermal limit has been reached. (over-heating) Check to see if the fan on the back of the unit is blowing air. There are external fans that can be added to keep the GPU. (Graphics Processing Unit) and CPU (Central Processing Unit) temp down. Keeping the temp down can prevent the dreaded RRD. (Red Ring of Death) Here is link as an example of a cooling fan. http://www.gamerepairparts.com/xbox-360-cooling-.html
Shop around and find one that you like. Remember, when it comes to these computer chips, cooler is safer.

Power cuts off

Might be a faulty power supply mate , when you turn the xbox on observe the power indicator on the power brick.
Green means its okay
Amber means the console is in standby
Red means the Brick has had it.

Try a friends power brick to see if it does the same.
