All thermocouple leads have two ends.
One end has the elongated bulb that the pilot light heats up, other end is stubby and threaded, which screws into the gas valve.
Locate valve and pilot, remove bad one, reinstall new one.
This is also the same for all gas waterheaters, ranges, and any appliance that has a steady pilot.
But, sometimes it's the valve. That requires further testing with a meter for 400 to 700 Mili-amp-hrs output or using the magnetic spring loaded solenoid from gutting out an old gas valve.

I need a thermocouple for a dyna glo natural gas wall heater

Billy here's a link to A & B Sales. They have what you're looking for. Whether your heater is Natural Gas or Propane makes no difference when it comes to thermocouples. However the length of the tubing does when it's a wall or stand type vent-free heater.

I have an old whirlpool gas water heater and the pilot will not stay lit.

Suspects include bad thermocouple, thermocouple slipped down and not in pilot flame, dirty combustion parts and pilot tube, dirty air intake, backdraft caused by other vent fans pulling air down water heater vent, water dripping down vent because of poor venting, air in gas line, low gas pressure, bad gas control valve, hot attic environment, tight house not allowing enough air:

Comfort Glow Vent-free Gas Heater CGN18B

the pilot light is operated off a millivolt generator. that is the small tube directly in the pilot flame. its purpose is to generate a small dc current which is connected to the pilot valve inside the main valve. setting the control to pilot opens just the pilot gas supply. when operating normally the millivolt generator keeps a small electromagnet pulled in that keeps the pilot gas supply open. if it don't work the pilot gas supply valve closes. replace the thermocouple.
