Question about Toshiba MV13P3 19" TV

1 Answer

VCR Tape VCR is not working properly. When I put in tape to play it sounds like the forward mechanism is slipping. Starts to move tape forward then slips. Video is displayed very jerky and it sounds like someone is scratching a blackboard. Tried different tapes. It is the VCR unit that doesn't work. The television part of the unit is working fine.

Re: VCR Tape

This sounds like the tape is being stretched which can only mean one thing, the brakes on the supply spool (left side) is engaged and is preventing free rotation of the spool for the source/supply side of the tape. A sure sign that tap is being stretched would be deformation on the edges of the tapes you have used (rewind them just a bit).

Since this involve opening the unit and full disassembly of the mechanical aspect of the VCR, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified VCR technician.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Tape will not play and will not eject from my Magnavox VCR plus. I can't get any message to come up on the screen. The little video cassette in the upper left hand corner flashes, I have four dashes across...

Try first to unplug and replug after a few minutes. If this fails disassembly and physical removal is the only way. The tape may also be dammaged. In order to disassemble unplug and remove back cover, Remove (label)all connectors between vcr assembly - bottom section - and TV ***'y unscrew the two deep seated screws holding the VCR to the front chassis, remove the top lid with boards, Check to see if the tape is wound around the head (aluminum cylinder) and remove any obstacles or unwind if tape is bunched up. On the right side back there is a gear (wormwheel) that can be moved in a direction that unloads the tape from the head and cassete basket.
This is a big job even for an experienced tech and if you want to salvage the tape would be best left to proffesional. If you feel comfortable going as far as suggested post back here and I'll help along the way.

VCR kicks out cassettes

Sounds as if something got bent in the loading mechanism when you freed the stuck tape. Careful examination of the loading operation with the cover off may reveal the problem, but you may require a service shop, as there are hazardous voltages present inside, even when switched off.

Picture on Panasonic tv intermittently becomes striated and bottom half of picture shows on top half of screen

Hello! What you're describing sounds like a vertical deflection problem if it also occurs when you're watching a TV program. This type of trouble is a component failing in the vertical circuit of your set. A loose solder connection could cause this. On the other hand, if it just happens when you run the VCR, your problem could be somewhere in the tape drive mechanism or possibly a bad tape. Things like slipping clutches, bad belts sticking guide rollers are a few things that will cause this in a VCR. You need to have a tech check it for you. Hope this gives you some help. Stargazer
