FH error - how to clean water inlet screen? (by 6 users)

posted by jbk1 on Nov 12, 2007

My machine stops in the middle of the washing cycle and displays the FH error (inadequate water supply). Upon inspection, it looks like some particles in the cold water supply may have clogged the screen in the inlet. I've tried to just rub them off with my finger, and it looks clean to me, but it keeps giving that error. Is it possible that the screen needs to be cleaned better, or something else needs to be cleaned? (The other possibility of course is that the particles continue to come from my cold water pipe).

Hi, this is jbk1, the original poster. I read that the FH error is caused by low water pressure, so I decided to change the hose bibbs (spigots) which were pretty old at my house. That fixed the problem for me. So you might try that -- they are only $5 at the local hardware store and twist off/on with a big wrench.

We had the same problem on a new set delivered this week. The repairman is supposed to come on Monday. I'll let you know what we find out. What a disappointment!

I have the same F H error messages with my Maytag Front Load Washer. I'm so frustrated!!! I did exactly what the manual said... I pressed PAUSE/OFF twice, I unplugged the washer, I turned off the water faucets, I unscrewed the water hoses and made sure there wasn't any blockage in the hose or the screen, but I still get the error.
Please let me know if you find a solution.
Thank you.

Did anyone find a solution for this problem? Ours was installed and they said it worked fine, but when we try to run a load of wash it never gets past initial filling.

I'm also getting the FH error, though randomly. Have checked all the inlet hoses & screens and everything is OK. Sometimes it runs without encountering an FH, sometimes FH comes up multiple times in a single load.

I had the repairman come out. It turns out that because I'm overly cautious and purchased the metal water hoses that are supposed to be flood proof, that hose hoses were causing my problem. I purchased new hoses and my machine works great now. I purchased the hoses that look like bungie cords... They may not be flood proof (like the metal ones) but they are stronger than the rubber ones that come with the machine and they don't have the little shut off valve (little plastic thing) in them. I haven't had any errors since I changed the hoses.

I had same error. Repairman came out and is ordering 3 parts: a new water inlet valve, a new electric control board and a flowmeter. This unit is only 1 year old. (20 days past manufacture warranty) I thought you never had to repair Maytags. The parts alone are $325.00.
