Had error code 91 on Trane XL19i thermostat. Heat season on duel fuel system. Repair tech said board is bad ($963) and transducer ($1000). Unit is 3 ton 12 years old. Does it make sense to repair or put in a new unit?

What size is this airhandler?

I live in a part of the world where it is summer 10 months out of the year. A basic rule of thumb of mine based on how houses are built here is you need 1 ton of ac for each bedroom. SO..... if you have 3 bedrooms then most likely that is a 3 ton air handler. This based on 8 foot ceilings and standard plain Jane housing not a mansion or anything like that.

Coleman airhandler installation

Hello,George TIPS?I assume you are looking at the elements as they run.A 4 ton drive can keep active heat strips from glowing. What is your heat rise split.Meaning in/supply out/return temps?W1&W2 sequencer time delays can be up to 3 minutes.Take a AMP reading on 1 heat element supply wire with a volt meter. You can jump W1&W2 at the board for testing.

Is there a system mismatch with an American Standard 13 seer 3 ton compressor and a Nordyne 3.5 ton air handler? Noise at TRV when heating.

This must be a heat pump? Sometimes the unit can be more efficient with this combonation. What you are probably hearing is the reverse direction of the
refrigerant going back through the liquid line.

If in cooling sometimes you can hear a gurgling sound going through the expansion valve, sometimes
this is a sign of low refrigerant or the system is fine..

If you recently had the outdoor unit replaced and noise is an issue, check to see if the unit has isolation pads installed underneath the unit whether
it be on concrete slab or on brackets mounted to
house. Sometimes the new units come with compressor that has a jacket installed over it
