Most of the time that this happen is because the printer is just dirty or have something blocking the railway. I recommend that you take it apart, and get on of those air compressor that are sold in Office Max, use to air blow whatever is loose in the printer. After that check to see if there is any piece of paper stuck.
After that it should work OK again, if it doesn't, then there could be a plastic part broken and is out of alignment.

SOURCE: paper will not feed

Check for a jam again somewhere in printer unit, rollers, teeth, down back in paper feeder area. I thought i had no jam in my unit either until i got a torch and found the tiniest slip of a shred barely noticeable right in the middle of the teeth/roller. Remeber to turn it off after this, to reset it.

SOURCE: MP160 Error E3

I work in a shop repairing these printers and have had a large number with the same fault - displaying E-3 with no jam in the paper path. This is caused by a broken part in the paper feed mechanism that pevents the printer from taking the paper. The part located right at the bottom of the printer looks like two white gears connected together with a central spring. At present I am trying to find a supplier of the spare parts - will check back.

SOURCE: not feed paper

it may be that the paper is too slick for the grabber to access...try a little heavier bond paper(not the same as copier paper, which is SLICK.

L4 errors relate to motors. L4-02 specifically means Paper feed motor locking trouble.

You will need to take it in for repairs.

  3. Close the HP Paper Feed Cleaning Kit software on the computer.
  4. Load plain paper in the printer paper tray.
  5. Press the Power button to turn the printer off.

Color differences

i apologize for the inconvinience.

the possible reason why its printing the right color, is bec. some of the nozzles might be clogged by dried inks, so when inks come out, the combination of colors are not balance. try printing a nozzle check first, if the nozzle check have gaps or breaks, try head cleaning, nozzle check after it so you can see if it improve or still w/ gaps, just do nozzle check, head cleaning, then nozzle check, head cleaning alternately until no more gaps then try to print.

Printing a nozzle check pattern
Load paper in your printer
In SelecType mode, press the Paper Feed (fontu1.gif) or Paper Feed (fontd1.gif) button until TEST PRINT is displayed on the LCD panel, and then press the SelecType button.
Press Paper Feed (fontu1.gif) or Paper Feed (fontd1.gif) button to display NOZZLE CHECK
Press SelecType button to display PRINT
Press the Enter button. The nozzle check pattern is printed as shown below. After printing, printer exits the SelecType mode and return to the READY status.
Nozzle check pattern examples:
good
yoi.gif head cleaning necessary
warui.gif

headcleaning: press the cleaning button for 3 seconds

Lexmark x2480

Is it pulling through only on the right?
Or left?
Either way [sounds like] it needs taking apart to put the paper feeder cogs back inline.
To the right would suggest the easier option of the bar which is visible from where the paper exits has dislodged and the cogs sit on the left hand side of it.
As the paper feeds through it's unlikely the other option as those cogs are what feeds the paper through but they are intricate so it can't be ruled out.
Not much fun if you don't like doing mechanical maintenance I guess!

Fax Machine

Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.

If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
Turn the printer off.
Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Paper feed problem.

I have just removed the panel where the power and USB cable lock into. It's a case of 1 screww from the rear and 2 catchs underneath the printer. From there you should be able to see the mechanism for the roller, a set of small white cogs. below that you should be able to see a very small spring which is acting as the pressure. Mine was still attached but as you say was pulling no pressure on the roller what so ever.

Solution:
Find yourself a large-ish rubber band and slip the band over the whole mechansim. Best way is through the paper feed slot, slip it over the roller and then move it through to the area where you removed the panel. Position the rubber band as far down the cogs as possible, don't worry the cog casing prevents the band interfearing with the cogs. Now pull the band reasonably tight and with the other hand test the pressure of the roller. Adjust till you feel OK with it. Now put the panel back in with the end of the rubber band trapped and poking out from the panel behind the printer, holding it in place. Redo the screw and give it a try.

My first attempt found it a bit too restrictive and feeded to sheets at a time but adjusted it once and its back to normal. I know its a bodge but its a cheap one and it uses a rubber band, just how I fixed my Punto's windscreen wiper, £120 part or a rubber band once a month... Mmmm...
