tried to install a ceiling fan to replace a dimming light chandelier.......light on fan and fan itself works but only by the pull chains....it will not turn off or on by the wall switch that controlled the dimmer light...i know the fans lights wont dim but i need them to turn off by that switch......when i removed the chandelier there were three black wires twisted together and three white wires twisted together plus the ground wire. I connected the three black and three white to the corresponding wires in the fans motor.....along with the ground......i installed this very same fan in a different room and it works fine...what am i missing?
Trip the breaker and verify that the fan/light will not operate. If tripping the breaker kills the circuit and flipping the wall switch would not, the switch is probably bypassed. Place the wall switch to "off" with the breaker tripped to the "off" position as well. Gain access to your wiring connections at the fan. Look for a single (black) wire that is not connected. This should be your hot return from the wall switch Make your fan/light connections to this wire. (Are you sure that the ground wire that you connected is a ground? If it is, it should be bare copper with no insulation). Your white (neutral) connection to the three white wires should be fine. If you don't find a single wire in the ceiling box, call on an electrician. Regards --WoobieDog--

The fan is a remote only fan. I've owned it for 4 years. Before and after new batteries, when I turn the unit on, I can hear the motor come on. After a few seconds, I hear the motor shut off. No sounds other than the motor.

The fan and remote above... fan speeds work. When switch giving power to the fan/light is first switched on the lights flicker then go out. The remote will NOT turn the lights on but controls the fans speeds fine. I've double-checked all connections - and clearly the light is getting power. Any ideas? Thanks - Jeff
