If your charging system is working, you can disconnect the battery while it's running, and it will stay running. The stator assembly (Like a car alternator) will supply the current to keep the bike running along with charging the battery. A multi-meter should show around 12.5 volts at the battery with the engine off, and just under 14 volts running, under normal working conditions.

1980 caddy coupe deville has brand new battery, brand new alternator but the battery keeps draining.

Something is staying on after the key is turned off. easy way to find out what is staying energized is pull all fuses, disconect the battery, then put the amp meter in line with the positive side of the system between the positive battery post and the positive cable end. then put the fuses back in one at a time a see which one draws one or two amps. that will lead you to the draw down circuit. If nothing is pulling the battery down then the battery is not getting a full charge. Check the ground conection at the motor side of the cable and also the ground strap between the motor and the firewall

I would suggest going to a auto parts store like AuotZone and have system check. They will do it for free. You also may want to try disconnecting the POSITIVE CABLE and not the NEGATIVE it will die when you disconnect the ground.

New batteries keep losing their charge, also when running sounds like it loses all power then in a split second it stays running

sounds like an over draw on system
computers need min 10.5 volts to stay alive (working) other wise they shut down
i would start by charging batteries fully and disconect from vehicle for 24 hr
then re check before hooking up if they staied charged batteries are good
then hook up bateries negatives then hook up a voltage meter to performed a parasedict
test other word in series to positive cable on wire and other to battery positive if draw is high
on meter start removing fuses on at a time until voltage on meter drops
you have know located source of draw that is killing batteries know diag that problem
ex . under hood light staies on........glove box stays on.......aftermarket stuff inproperly conected
good luck

Won't stay charged for more than 6 hours with new battrey

its the default & maximum service given by your new battery & any kind of multimedia phones. you can not increase the time of discharge. don't use it much to listen songs, watch videos, surf net, etc. also disable the screen saver. all these will save your battery charge.

I had a problem with my battary staying charged so I put a new alternator in and still the was not charging so then I looked at the electrical I found the harnest wire that connects fom the alternator to...

It sounds like you have a wire directly connected from the battery to the starter motor by passing your ignition switch. double check that the new harness that you put in with the new alternator is correctly installed. hope this helps good luck.

Will the car stay running if the batterie is disconected

It should stay running. If your alternator is bad it may not stay running but in all cases it should stay running.

I have an RZT50 Cub Cadet Mower that only starts with jump

it sounds like the starter motor is pulling to many amps for the battery to cope with. if its a 12v system it should not pull the battery down to less than 8.5 volts on cranking if it does the starter-motor is defective you can check this with a volt meeter across the battery terminals and see what it read as you crank the engine. hope this helps
