Rip it out restore the wiring to original and leave well alone these things always give trouble and no end of questions on here ,put car in the garage to keep it warm ,once started drive off straight away ,leaving the engine running to warm the car up will shorten the engine life ,do what the swedes do and fit a small electric heater into the cylinder block ,park car in the garage and dump the junk in their, then fit a block heater and using a timer to turn it on to wamr the engine a hour before you leave for work .

2007 GMC Envoy WILL START, starter will not disengage. New ignition switch, will not disengage. Why?

Question edited for funky spelling and punctuation.
Question moved to model category.

Jeff provides a great answer to the issue

  • Jeff Armer Jan 02, 2023. Starter relay contacts stuck closed could be a reason .

  • Circuit Description
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12 volt signal to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) Crank Request circuit. The ECM/PCM verifies that the transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position. With the transmission in Park, voltage flows through the Park/Neutral position switch and feeds the starter relay coil. The ECM/PCM then grounds the control circuit of the starter relay. When the starter relay is energized it allows battery positive voltage to the starter solenoid S terminal. On some vehicles the starter will continue to crank the engine with the key released until it starts or the crank command has timed out to prevent excessive heat build up in the starter circuitry or the ECM/PCM receives an engine run flag.

2003 GMC Envoy. How do I hotwire my car as my key ignition messed up.

You can't, that only happens in old movies.

Your immobilizer works with a chip in the key transmitting a code to the transponder in the ignition column which sends the code to the engine computer, the body control computer, the transmission computer and the ignition module. They all have a chat about it and then decide if they will let the car have power to the ignition and fuel pump. This all happens fast between the ignition lighting up and turning the starter motor.

There are always people with other ideas though and make money from YouTube videos.

It is better to fix the problem, not find a way around it. The cheapest solution is a mobile auto locksmith.

Hotwiring and stealing cars has virtually stopped since the advent of immobilizers.

My 2002 gmc envoy starts with remote but will not crank with keys

The remote start bypasses the ignition portion of the antitheft security system to allow you to remotely start the truck. But the system still needs the signal from the key to allow the vehicle to remain running and drive. I would assume the ignition is bad or needs to be trained to the system if it was replaced.

2000 GMC Envoy stalls while driving, shifting issues

Hi,
Yes, the Ignition switch is tied into the 'shift interlock system', and if the system is never really 'off' the codes may be related.

I'd REMOVE the remote start to ensure you're working from a 'clean slate' and get the ignition switch fixed....likely a dealer item, but call around auto parts stores. You may need to get it 'rekeyed' to match.

Also, a Jimmy and Envoy are identical - the Envoy is the higher trim line of the Jimmy: LINK

2005 GMC Envoy. Wining sound from under the car at startup.

Hello,
I suggest checking your starter motor. If the starter motor is staying engaged it could be a bad solenoid or a bad ignition switch.

I hope this helps.
