Hi Susan,

Happy New Year!

try engaging the "Feed Dog Switch" and turn the flywheel on the side with a gentle back n fourth motion. Sometimes they get stuck with all the fuzz and buildup in the switch mechanisms from use. If that doesn't get you going, a visit to the authorized repair shop might be needed.
Cheers,

Actually, Susan, feed dogs don't automatically come up when you move the switch on ANY machine--until you turn the hand wheel TOWARDS you (ALWAYS towards you) at least one time, and in many cases more than one time. Keep turning, and you'll hear a click that indicates that they're in position. There's nothing wrong with your machine; all sewing machines designed that way, and I have a friend that got a real deal on a Brother one time because it was being sold as "defective" because the feed dogs wouldn't come up! She took it home, set it and then turned the wheel towards her two revolutions, and SNAP they came up! The store was just not aware you had to do that!

Not all machines are made this way. Not good information.

I have a singer futura xl-400, don't have the cd to install the software on my computer, can it be downloaded off the Internet somewhere?

if it can, you will find it --go google and type in --software for singer futura xL-400 sewing machine
from you operators manual it will explain how to connect the machine to the computer for the down load or to download to a usb stick for installation to the machine
if you don't have the manual then go google and type in -operators manual ( for the machine)

Singer futura xl-400 should the feed dogs be disengaged when embroidering

ABSOLUTELY! The XL models of embroidery machines are supposed to automatically lower when you put the embroidery unit on, but I have had an XL-400 and currently have an XL-550 and Quintet, and I have noticed on the latter two that the feed dogs have not always automatically lowered. Incidentally, to lower or raise the feed dogs, the lever (it's in the back) goes DOWN and OVER. If you are having problems getting it move, use a straight blade screwdriver and pop the little tip off--it's not necessary to operating the feed dogs.

Also incidentally, when you raise the feed dogs, you have to turn the hand wheel towards (ALWAYS towards you for anything) several times to get the feed dogs to actually pop up. You'll hear when it does that. They lower right away, though.

I have a futura ce150 and the feed dog is raised but not moving the fabric

Try lowering the feed dog and then raising it again, but be sure to push the switch over as far as possible. Sometimes the switch will stop just a little short and the feed dog will not be 100% raised but it will seem to be to the naked eye. Hope this helps.

I have a futura CE-200. The feed dog is stuck in the down position. The switch will not work. Is this something that I can fix?

I had the same problem with my Singer machine. The lady in Hancocks told me that when you begin sewing the feed dogs will pop back up. Just rotate your wheel and see if that fixes it.
