Hi Susan,
Happy New Year!
try engaging the "Feed Dog Switch" and turn the flywheel on the side with a gentle back n fourth motion. Sometimes they get stuck with all the fuzz and buildup in the switch mechanisms from use. If that doesn't get you going, a visit to the authorized repair shop might be needed.
Cheers,

Actually, Susan, feed dogs don't automatically come up when you move the switch on ANY machine--until you turn the hand wheel TOWARDS you (ALWAYS towards you) at least one time, and in many cases more than one time. Keep turning, and you'll hear a click that indicates that they're in position. There's nothing wrong with your machine; all sewing machines designed that way, and I have a friend that got a real deal on a Brother one time because it was being sold as "defective" because the feed dogs wouldn't come up! She took it home, set it and then turned the wheel towards her two revolutions, and SNAP they came up! The store was just not aware you had to do that!
