There is an intensified blue area lower center of the screen. Tried removing the bulb to see if any dust or stuff might be on the bulb. No luck.

Our KDF-55WF655 Projection Sony TV is 2.5 years old.

We both work full time, and don't use it that much.

It has a BLUE TINT from left to right, 1 inch high on the bottom.

It seems to be getting bigger all the time.

    Cleaning did not help.

I have the 55" Sony WEGA (2004 model year). Sure enough, I had a very small blue hue show up at the very bottom right of the screen. It was at the very corner, but would get slightly larger when lighter colors were on the screen. Sony has extended the warranty on this issue through 12/31/08. I called the number at their website at esony on Monday morning. They gave me a reference number, and had me call a local, authorized TV repair shop. Wednesday morning they came out and fixed it - no charge. It was the optical block/light engine/whatever. I had the TV 39 months, so I was out of factory warranty plus the extended warranty through Best Buy, but not a penny out of pocket. I must congratulate Sony on trying to make things right - not 50 hours after my initial call, my TV was repaired at no cost to me.

FYI - the repairman did say he's fixed quite a few, though Sony says the problem is only in limited sets.

Same Problem, Sony fixed it for free, or so they say. They said they will give me a service authorization tomorrow and they will send a repair guy tomorrow

I had or Sony 60 inch rear projection TV for just over 12 months. The same blue haze problem and it only gets worse. I know of at least 40 others that have the same issue as i have emails addresses of each one with some pictures and information regarding the repair quotes. All were turned away by sony unless it was in their warranty. The repair costs were between $800 and $1500 and our repairer said that it would more than likely happen again and i should have the TV serviced at least every 12 months. There are heaps of posts at this site and there are a few of us taking it to small claims court and a few that have been given another lcd screen as a replacment after going to court. If you can email any information or pics of the problem we can try and force sony into fixing the problem. There is also a class action underway in the US my email is sean@ozmad.com

Blue haze in top left corner & bottom right corner, as well as blue dots througout the entire screen. Very frustrating ... the TV isn't that old. :(

You have the blue dot or star pattern on screen issue

Sony will fix it for free until December 28, 2008. I would contact Sony and they will send a repair person out to confirm and fix it.

Agoraquest has the information in the url below and the procedures to fix it.

Byt he way, these parts (the optical block) are now being fixed by Sony under an "extended" basis due to the amount of problems....I would re-contact Sony as they are now standing behind the product.....

Premtech is right. I had the same problem with my Sony Wega 55" KDF-55WF655. It was the Optical Block. I was looking at a $1200 to $1300 service bill.
My TV was only 13 months old. I did not have a extended service agreement. I call Sony Corp and complained and complained, Sony elevated my concern up 3 management levels. I told Sony all I was is the part for free and I'll pay for the labor of installing it. Sony felt that was fair and shipped the part to my service vendor. The service call was $350.
The way to prevent the blue fog from occurring in the future is to view the screen in full mode. Don't view a program with the image cut off and black bars on the sides or top and bottom. Always stretch or enlarge the picture to fill the whole screen.

That could only be the optical block, Sony p/n# A1084662a and heaven help you if it needs to be replaced. It is the single most expensive part of the DLP based projection Tv's costing approximately $900.00 dollars plus core and shipping..
You'll need to take this one to a quality repair center to have it estimated. It may be that they can repair it also - but whatever the case these type of repairs are not cheap.
Please don't kill the messenger...
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Blue haze on the lower part of rear Projection TV

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Blue haze from lower left slowly starting to consume the screen

The blue LCD panel in the light engine is going bad. The only fix is to replace the light engine. This is an extremely expensive repair. However, Sony has extended the warranty on the light engine only on many of these models. Find a local Sony authorized service center and give them your model and serial number to see if yours qualifies for the warranty.

Blue Haze in middle of screen progressively getting larger

This one is easy. WHen this happened to me, I simply called GE extended warranty service up and bought an extended warranty. I waited 30 days and called them up with my problem. A repair man showed up a few days later with the 1200 dollar light engine and installed it and left. Then I called GE up and cancelled the warranty. Total cost?: 48 bucks
