Hi!

The Print Screen key on your computer doesn't really print the screen. What it does it take a picture of the screen, and puts it into your clipboard.

You can then Paste (Control-V) the image into a program such as Paint or Word.

Print Screen by itself does a full screen image capture.

Control-Print Screen only takes a picture of the topmost window.

I hope this helps.

As mentioned above the Print Screen or PrtSc button isn't for actually printing. What it is used for is taking a screen shot of your computer screen. To see how to use is click the link below:

How do I print screen on lenovo t61p?

I use the combination of pressing <Ctrl>+<Fn>+<Print Screen> to copy the screen capture to the clipboard. The Ctrl and Fn keys are adjacent in the lower left hand corner of the keyboard (just left of the Windows key). The Print Screen button is the key to the farthest to the right on the top-most row of keys (look for the blue paper + printer icon).

Next open Paint. (Start > Accessories > Paint). Then choose Paste from the left hand side of the ribbon. (There is a down arrow which gives Paste or Paste From options. Just use the Paste.)
Now crop the screen capture if desired and then click on File > Print > Print. Then select your printer and press Print.

Nearly any image editor will work after the screen capture is in the clipboard.

I hope this helps.

What is the Print Screen key on my keyboad used for?

If you used computers back in the 80's (DOS days) you probably remember using the Print Screen key on your keyboard to print a copy of whatever was on the monitor screen at that time on your printer. It wasn't used that much because back in those days it took forever for a dot matrix printer to print out the entire monitor screen. However, it came in handy once and awhile.<br />Today, many people just glance at the Print Screen key (and wonder what it's there for), and some hit the key and when nothing happens they just forget about it.<br />Well, Microsoft didn't forget about it at all. They turned it into a "Snapshot key" which, as that term implies, takes a snapshot of the monitor screen. <br />Microsoft doesn't really highlight the fact that a user, after taking a snapshot of the screen, can easily save and/or print that snapshot using paint.<br />After taking the snapshot, in Windows XP simply click on Start, All Programs, Accessories and Paint. Then click on Edit followed by Paste and Voila! There's your screen snapshot in living color staring you in the face! This same capability exists in other versions of Windows, however the key-stroke sequence differs.<br />Now you can click on File, Save As, and save it with a .jpg/tif extension (etc.) and/or send it to your printer using File, Print.<br /><br />Perhaps Microsoft tried to get the keyboard manufacturers to change the name of the key from Print Screen to Snapshot, but I guess we will be stuck with the keyboad Print Screen label forever.<br /><br />Anyway, the Print Screen key is a much more functional tool under Windows than it ever was

How do I get my prtscn to print straight

Instructions
  1. Use PrintKey2000 to Direct Print
    • 1Download and save PrintKey2000 or PrintKeyPro from the "Resources" section. Save the file in a folder named "Printkey" on your "C:" drive. Double click the .exe file and follow the onscreen instructions for a problem-free installation.
    • 2 Access the Print Key program by double-clicking the hand icon in the bottom right hand corner of the task bar.
    • 3 Double click the "Options" tab in the upper right hand corner. Click on "Define Hot-keys." Set a hotkey for printing the full desktop and for printing the active screen you are in.
    • 4 Navigate back to the "Options" tab and select "Direct Print (No Dialog)" so that it has a check mark next to it.
    • 5 Select the "Printer Options" function on the main program screen. Select the printer you want the print jobs sent to.
    • 6 Select a screen to use as a test. Press your hotkey for printing the full desktop and then the hotkey to print the active page. You want to make sure both functions work properly.
Use the Print Screen Function Without a Plug-in Program
    • 7 Press the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard to print the full desktop. Press the "Alt" key plus the "Print Screen" key to print the active window.
    • 8 Click "Start" in the lower left of the taskbar. Navigate to "Applications" and choose the Microsoft Paint program.
    • 9 Click "Edit" in the program screen and click the "Paste" option. You will now see a copy of your screen capture.
    • 10 Navigate to "File" and save the screen capture as a .jpeg file. Navigate to "File" again and click "Print" to send the job to an installed printer.
Using the Print Key Function with ScreenShot 2 Print
    • 11 Download and install ScreenShot 2 Print. ScreenShot 2 Print has a free trial option, and as of May 2010, costs $7 for the full version. Configure the program to print to a designated printer from the onscreen commands. The screen captures will print automatically when the required keys are pressed.
    • 12 Hold down the "Control" key (Ctrl) and the "Print Screen" key to capture a screen shot of the full desktop. The image will be sent directly to the designated printer.
    • 13 Hold down the "Shift" key and "Print Screen" key to take a screen shot of the active window, which is sent directly to the printer.

How do i use the prt scr button

Whatever happened to the Print Screen key??
If you did computers back in the 80's (DOS days) you probably remember using the Print Screen key on your keyboard to print a copy of whatever was on the monitor screen at that time to your printer. It wasn't used that much because back in those days it took forever for a dot matrix printer to print out the entire monitor screen. However, it came in handy once and awhile.
Microsoft has turned the key into into a "Snapshot key" which, as that term implies, takes a snapshot of the monitor screen.
After taking the snapshot, in XP simply click on Start, All Programs, Accessories and Paint. Then click on Edit followed by Paste and Voila! There's your screen snapshot in living color staring you in the face!
Now you can use "Save As" and save it with a .jpg/tif extension (etc.) and/or send it to your printer using File, Print.
If your keyboard Print Screen key performs more than one function you will have to experiment a little to get it the key to perform the Print Screen Function. Try holding down the ALT, SHIFT, or CTRL key (or any "special" keys unique to your keyboard) when you hit the Print Screen key in order to get the key to perform its Print Screen function.

4. Go to File and select Print.

I am having a problem getting my tax summary to print

print-screen-deluxe-7.jpg The Windows Print Screen Key can be a powerful tool if you know how to use it to its full potential. There are some who initially think that when they press the Print Screen Key that it will literally be sent to the printer! That's okay, we've all been there, done that. Just don't tell anyone! Actually, if you are using DOS, it will be sent to the printer.
Print Screen/SysRq
The key may appear differently depending on the manufacturer of your Windows keyboard. The standard position would be at the upper right hand corner of your keyboard and may appear within this sequence of keys...
F9 F10 F11 F12 Print Screen Scroll Lock Pause/Break
The sole function of this key is to take a snapshot or picture of your computer screen and copy it to the clipboard (the clipboard is an invisible holding area for content that is copied). Its the same thing as if you copied something from a document and it is now on your clipboard waiting to be pasted in its final destination. Its that simple. As quoted by Webopedia...
Often abbreviated Prt Scr, the Print Screen key is a useful key supported on most PCs. In DOS, pressing the Print Screen key causes the computer to send whatever images and text are currently on the display screen to the printer. Some graphics programs and Windows, use the Print Screen key to obtain Screen Captures.
Now, how do you get to see those Screen Captures or maybe even send them to someone? The quickest and most effective method is to have a graphics editing program handy. If that is not an option, you can open your favorite word processing program and create a new document. Position your cursorflashing-cursor.gifat the beginning of the document or wherever you want the screenshot to appear.
Using your keyboard, press Ctrl + V which will Paste the screenshot in your open document. Now you can Save (Ctrl + S) the document to wherever you wish, make sure to name it appropriately so you can easily find it.
You can now send this file to anyone via email, use it in a presentation, create your own little book of screenshots showing how to perform a specific task, etc. The possibilities are endless.
We use the Windows Print Screen Key regularly. You probably will too once you get the hang of it!

Sorry about the ad in the corner,Try the print screen key.
