Happy new year.
WHAT IS THE RPM>?
hot or cold engine? both key factors.
the a/c puts a large load on the engine
the engine J20 is powerful, and has idle controls
so now those controls are dead.
1: if engine has full power then its not due to lean bogging at idel
2: idle controls failing, ISC failure or failsafe mode.(pcm)
3; Seizing a/c compressor.

idle controls are suspended in fails safe mode
idle controls will fail of engine is real lean.
idle controls will fail if the engine is overloaded.

we check the a/c by hand to see if its ok.
we scan the PCm see if DTC ERRORS. SEE RPM AT 800
See coolant at 180F
we then make sure the engine at hot idle is at closed loop status
if not, we fix that first.

idle is last to fix, all else must be correct or idle will or can fail.
eg: running real lean, running rich and misfiring. etc.
Egr VALVE STUCK OPEN

AND lots more..... ask

SOURCE: replace timing chains on 04

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Have you replaced the tensioner as well? If not, I strongly suggest that you replace the tensioner. It must be done during the timing chain replacement. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1: bad need of tune up.
2: EGR sticking open, clean it, the service lists , lists it, at 50k miles.
3: lean fuel mixture.
4: ISC bad or just dirty, we clean ours at EGR clean 50k.
5: in limphome.

no ?, bad, scan it.

How to install cooling fan sensor

These are normally located on the lower (intake) tank of the radiator and will have either one or two leads and should plug in with no problem.
You will, however, have to put some kind of basin under the radiator to catch the coolant which will run out on removal of the sensor.

My 2005 suzuki vitara idles up and down when a/c is on

this is normal. it has been so for 50+ years. if you watch under the hood, you will note that this occurs as the compressor cycles on and off. more load on engine requires more fuel, live with it.

Why does my Grand Vitara idle but not accelerate?

which engine is it, they have many
liters. and cylinder count.?
J20? J25 (I4 or V6?)?
i own a 04' J25 and have the full FSM on it, and more.

first checks
1: all fuses.
2: fluid levels?
3: key on, no start, CEL glows. if not big problems. (or fuses)
4: key on, started, CEL goes out, if not?, scan it.
post DTCs stored in memory...

if car is sold in Canada, the CEL lies. so scan it no matter.
the scan tool is $9 , ask.
