The following advice is not a joke. I am very serious:
Place a towel on a spot over the lock catch. Now, with the ''ball'' of your hand (face of your hand just above the wrist), _bang_ as hard as you can without denting the metal. Do this about three times, quick and hard as possible (Bang! Bang! Bang!). Then try opening the hatch. This usually works very well. And it also works on stuck hoods. If it doesn't work, try it again a few times. It is now Winter and a ''Summer Bang'' will obviously work much easier. (Good luck)

you don't. take it into a Hyndai Dealership and have the handle repaired/replaced. The rear hatch panel/cover has to be removed (from inside the vehicle) to access the hatch latch and open the door.. from that point the handle can be replaced/repaired.

sounds like a blown fuse, open drivers door and look at side of dash, fuse panel is there check fuses

my 06 tahoe just got this problem...all other doors lock and unlock with the fab and door switch...but the hatch is in permanent locked mode. i cant even unlock the hatch window. why is this happening?

In my vehicle there is a botton in the glovebox that gets accidently switched off. there is a child safety button to prevent automatic door closing...highlander may have this switch as well.
