If all the settings work and the door closes ok . why throw it out ?. It may not be quite as efficient power wise as a brand new one. the few cents extra to run it against the price of a new one, I would stay with old faithful.

Microwave stopped working

Probably a problem with the door latch safety system. This happens every so often with our microwave, which is over 25 years old, and otherwise works perfectly.
If yours is new, it may still be under warranty. If not, there are places that specialize in fixing microwave ovens.
If it is an older, or less expensive oven, it might be time for a new one.

The electrical outlet is on. The microwave is completly dark. It's 16 years old. What should i do? Fix it or buy a new one.

After 16 years, I should think you had your money's worth from this machine.
There are a few arguments for fixing it, if it's repairable, but a new one will be more powerful while being more efficient too. (use less electric)
Less radiation leakage too.. (pacemaker exposure?)

Perhaps you should first try shopping around to see if you find one that you like, and that fits in the space you have for it, etc. If you buy a new one, get a good one. Don't go cheap.
If one seems to make good sense to you, then buy it. If nothing looks good to you then find a repair shop to take old one to.

Why would you keep old one? Well first of all, they don't make them like they used to. Lot of new ones are noisy and rattle a lot. Don't last nearly as long. Many new ones have problems early.

Old ones are lower power, which is slower, BUT food heats more evenly because of it. Less prone to exploding food.

It works normal but doesn't heat.its 11 yrs. Old. Do I repair or replace it.

It would be much easier, and cost efficient to replace the Microwave, especially if no heat is being generated.

If the light, or turntable went out or something, maybe then a repair would be more reasonable.

Microwave is 21 years old. It is above the range

Um, no. You can get a new microwave that is much, much more efficient for a fraction of the repair cost.

1984 samsung re-515 dead.

Check fuses or count yourself lucky that you got 25 years out of anything. Buy a new one...there relatively cheap and work more efficiently. This old one probably leaks radiation anyway.

I have a 21y/o full sized Kenmore 700w microwave that I want to keep. Worked fine until this morning. Everything works except the heat.

Sadly Kenmore only offers parts for 10 years. The truth is a new microwave for 50 dollars will be much more energy efficient than your 21 yr. old model
