SOURCE: Tappan Gas stove

The pilot adjustment screw is located on the back side of the oven temperature thermostat. Lift the cook top to access it. Use a flat screwdriver to adjust... counter clockwise= bigger flame.

SOURCE: pilot lights

you need to plug the oven in; pull it out and you should locate the pwr cord or you may already have it plugged in and have a breaker turned off or a gfi tripped

SOURCE: gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

How do I turn off the pilot light in my Magic Chef 31000paw oven? I think when it stays on it is wasting gas.

I don't know. While half a century ago it was common that pilot lights would be permanently lit to provide instant lighting of oven and hobs, because they did consume a significant amount of gas they fell out of favour and spark ignition became reliable.

Amid a number of related and unrelated accidents the gas oven began to be seen as potentially dangerous and so they were fitted with a couple of safety devices so for a considerable time the pilot light has to be relit every time the oven is used and the pilot light will be switched off when the oven burners are turned off.

Thinking back a long time, the pilots of our old cooker could be turned off using a screwdriver to turn a central service valve hidden under the hob spill tray.

How is the oven of the gas cooker works?

a model number and make might narrow the millions of possible answers. If the oven is gas the most likely set up is to push a button located at the bottom of the oven or a lever to tell the oven to let gas in for the pilot light if gas. Usualy the temperature knob is turned to max while pressing the button or lever while at the same time pressing the stove spark generator ignition button. when the flame lights hold the button in the oven for about 20 seconds to let the oven get use to being lit before releasing the button.

Old wedgewood oven in home...very low pilot light in oven...how do I adjust it?

The oven pilot is usually located at the back of the oven; turn a screw on the pilot ignition unit to adjust the pilot flame height.

here is a link, pretty much all older ranges operate the same.

Is there a pilot for the oven that can go out and needs to be manually relit? I have alrady replaced the igniter

The Whirlpool SF357 (SF357PEKQ0 specifically) does not have a pilot light; only the electric igniters that light the gas on demand for both the range and the cooktop.

On my gas ovens, checking the ignition is easiest with the warming drawer removed and the cover plate removed from the oven. Do you see a glow at the igniter? If yes, then the igniter is probably working. If not, check that the wiring harness between the igniter and the control board is connected and giving the appropriate power.

The next thing to check is that the oven gas valve is open. (Mine have a separate valve here.) Then check that nothing is blocking the gas line and that the regulator is opening and closing properly. We had an old oven that would start the gas flow and come up to temperature normally during the pre-heat time. However, when the oven cooled, the regulator wouldn't reopen thus the oven wouldn't stay at temperature. The regulator could be forced to open with a tap to the mechanism when the oven needed to come back to temperature.

Whirlpool has manuals and parts lists for the SF357 ranges on their site. https://www.whirlpool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OCManualsLiteratureSearchResultView?catalogId=10561&langId=-1&storeId=10211 . The installation guide is here: https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Installation%20Instructions%20-%208273169.pdf . The owner's manual is here: https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%208522776.pdf .

I hope this helps.

(In the case of our old oven, we replaced the entire range. The difference in price between a new range and the needed parts (and labor) to fix the old one were nearly the same.)

When dial of oven is turned on, nothing happens.

Have you checked the pilots for the oven? If the pilots are lit and it still isn't working then the problem may be the gas valve.

Gas oven turns on but no heat. Think pilot light is out but can't find it. Kenmore model 91130469893

Not sure how old your range is but most haven't had pilot lights for some years. The ovens use either a kind of hot-wire igniter or a spark gap for ignition. Check the Sears parts site for your model number and I think you'll find an illustrated parts breakdown that can be very helpful in diagnosing problems.

Magic chef oven pilot light out

Hi, If the oven has a standing pilot too, Open the bottom door and locate the main burner. Follow the burner toward the rear of the oven and there will be a flame switch attatched to the burner. Hold the flame near the flame switch and the gas should ignite.
Some model do not have a standing pilot in the oven. Please get me your model number off the label located around the opening of the lower door so I can look this up and instruct you better.

I have a 1948 Magic chef gas oven.Model # 8620. The gas was turned off at my home and the pilot light on the oven went out. The gas is now on and I need to relight the pilot light. I am not sure on the ove...

You did say 1948, as in 60 year old range?
Well, gas ranges did not have fancy safety valves or things like that back then. Most likely when you turn on the gas, a small amount of gas begins escaping at the pilot orifice. Then use a long handled lighter to put a flame there. Pilot should light right away.
