Dell inspiron 1520 will not charge the battery, if i can charge the battery some how then when its pluged in will stay charged, but if laptop gets un pluged it will not recharge, have switched chargers still does samethimg?

your battery is dead, try and replace it with another one and see if it charge.

When you say it won't charge, does it charge at all?

1. It indicates that it is charging, but as soon as you unplug the charger the battery quickly or immediately indicates it is dead. If the laptop is off, the LED on the laptop shows it is charging but the battery is always dead,

2. It is as if you didn't have the charger plugged in. No light on the laptop at all when the charger is plugged in.

Possible solutions:

1. The battery has died and is no longer capable of taking a charge. An alternate explanation if you can't even get the laptop to turn on even though the laptop charge LED is on, is that the internal power supply that converts the incoming and battery voltage to all the voltages required has died.

2. The power connector inside the laptop is a common failure point. The solder joints break from various minor shocks over time. This is going to become more common with lead-free solder as it is more brittle. Less likely is that the charging circuit inside the laptop has failed.

Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.

Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).

Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.

Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.

Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.

Do one thing, remove the battery from the laptop, connect to AC Power directly with out connecting the battery, then try to switch ON the laptop. If it got switched ON then there is problem in the Battery. If not it may be problem in the Power button or in the Mother Board.

I also have the same problem with my DELL Inspiron 640m. But when I replaced the BATTERY everything works fine.

Sounds like to me you may have a bad battery. I would do a search for your model number for a battery. It is showing being plug in that means your charger is working, but your battery not taking no charge.

dead motherboard, highly likely to be fine if the battery is full
