If you are sure you really have cleared a possible jam (often hard to see) it means the paper path sensor has failed. It can be replaced but the service cost may exceed that of a new printer

Try using compressed air to blow it out.. or use a compressor that can do 150 psi.. you might have dust in the sensor..

My scanner keeps jamming even though I took all the paper out

Try loading 1 paper only, keep an eye to see where it jams. It might be the roller or the pad. You also might have a a paper clip or some object in the paper path.

Paper Jam Issue with the HP Deskjet 5440

Clean the contacts on the HP Cartridge. I've had the same error before and i switched it to a fresh new cartridge.. works fine ever since. THen i decided to switch back to the old cartridge, same error as you but i cleaned the contacts on the cartridge, works for a while but done after a week. Problem is that the ribbon circuit is rusted and the printer doesnt recognize the ink anymore.

Also make sure you both have the ink cartridges in place. Make sure it is seated properly inside.

hope this helps!
