Strong ozone-like burning smell

A couple of weeks ago, the dryer stopped and the knob clicked endlessly around the dial. I thought it was the pump, cleared out the hole where things collect, etc. Ran a partial empty wash, then it worked fine again for a few weeks.

Yesterday, during the dry cycle (small load), it started clicking round the dial again, but this time with a strong burning smell almost like ozone, but different. It seems to emanate from the area of the machine with the black plastic part that whirrs around during the dry cycle. I ran an empty partial wash cycle again, then let it sit for a while, and the dryer worked again. There was still a smell, but I couldn't tell if it was new or not.

Today I ran another wash with the top open, and the smell started again, though it seemed to either stay the same or lighten up as it went along. I can't tell if it's residual or not. Any suggestions?

Re: Strong ozone-like burning smell

Sounds to me like the motherboard inside the unit is on it's way to thermal overload. This is a common problem with this particular model. You'll smell electronics burning and one day it'll quit altogether with a burst of smoke. I had this happen to me and I traced the problem back to a faulty triac (transistor-like device) that overheated and caused the circuit board and wiring harness to burn up from excessive current draw. I repaired my motherboard with a new triac ($6) and rewired the harnesses. A cooling fan on the heatsink of the board would solve this problem.

How do I dry only

When using the WD-1000 as a Dryer only, are you turning the rightmost knob Clockwise to the correct starting point?
Looking at the periphery of the knob, at the bottom, see the elongated "sausage" shape, outlined in blue? Turn the knob so it passes "Stop", and points there.
At the end of a completed Wash Cycle, that is where the pointer will be pointing. Once there, the machine switches automatically to Dryer Mode.
As long as the middle dial is set to a timer length greater than zero, the drying begins. I recommend turning the middle dial to somewhere around 2:00 o'clock, which corresponds to about 90 minutes if I remember correctly.
(You'll notice that is in the "Orange" area, meaning Full Heat - which is always fine because it never gets too hot anyway)

So, turn right dial to point to the "white sausage" at the bottom of the dial; Turn middle dial to 90 mins, or so; (Left dial only controls "Spin" speed - just set to max); and close the door. (It should begin drying)

I got a toaster about a year ago and a couple weeks ago it would start smoking and smell like burning plastic whenever I used it. My dad's a cheapskate and won't get a new one so I kept using it and now...

Please stop using this thing. You are working with deadly voltages and a very high risk setting your house on fire.
Keep in mind, if the thing starts to burn you can't use water to put the fire out.
The heating element must be broke lose of its settings, or someone dropped his or her toothbrush in the apparatus. Never try to repair kitchen equipment when it is connected. Not even when you think it is switched off.

Hi My F&P washer has been doing a error 51 for a couple of weeks, havent had a chance to get someone to kook at it, I stop it and restart it and it washes all the way through the cycle only did this on...

Error code 37 indicates a blocked or not working drain pump but the slight burning smell likely indicates a burned out drain pump motor. Do not use the machine unless the drain pump problem is addressed as it will result in the damage of the motor controller module. It has been found that electrical problem in the drain pump motor leads to the burning out of the motor controller module.

Error code 51 indicates a blocked or damaged diverter valve. It is where the drain pump and the recirculation pump inlet hoses are attached from. It works in directing (diverting) water to the recirculation pump during the wash stage and to the drain pump during the drain and spin stages. My washingmachine stopped working and gave off burning smell. How can I determine if its the motor thats burned out or something else?

Had one similar to this about three years ago. That burning smell would be the belt that runs the washer. Relatively easy to repair. You'll need make and model number to get the right replacement belt. Once you have it, get up under it, remove the old belt and put the new one on the same way. The belt will go around the pulley on the bottom of the washer drum, the motor and the tensioner. This should solve your problem. If you need more help, please let me know.

There is a strong oil smell in the dryer

If you have recently painted or varnished inside your home the fumes in the air can create a hydrocarbon type smell in your dryer. This should stop as soon as the house is aired out.

Machine fills with water drains and the knob goes around + around

I had a friend who had a similar problem, She called out an engineer and found that it was blocked, the items over time had filled the trap (A large pipe hanging down under the tub before the pump) which collects items that have been left in pockets etc before they reach the pump to avoid any damage. It was full of allsorts of things including coins which had overflowed and entered the pump casing and stopped the motor from running. The computer always checks that all the motors run before a wash cycle, if it finds a fault, the only way it can tell you apart from doing absolutely nothing (dead) is to keep rotating the dial so that you know that it`s found a fault with one of it`s systems. Hope this is helpful, Ian

EZ3612 - spins for couple of times then stops with burning smell and mode light blinking 13 times

Per the service manual, if the mode light blinks 13 times, there's a bad dryer sensor or thermostat. I'm not sure if that related to your problem but it's a start.
