Question about Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 for PC

Open Question

VideoWave 7 - freezes constantly

I have a fairly new PC which we bought especially with lots of memory, etc, to produce home DVD's. I am using EMC 7.5. I love its features but for some reason it freezes constantly and I spend half my time shutting it down. Is this a common problem with the program or do I have something on my PC not set properly?

I've gone through roxio 7 and updated to the roxio 9 version and have the same freezing problem with both. My laptop is only a year old. everytime i open roxio and try to move the slider over the timeline the computer slows down and freezes. It has got to the point where if i move the cursor I must wait two minutes for roxio to recognize it.

SOURCE: After I install Roxio 7

I assume you are installing the program using the setup file saved on your computer. If you are installing it from the CD/DVD, first copy all the contents and save them into your computer (a folder which you'll be able to remember easily, otherwise you may have trouble locating when needed).

Check the lists of installed programs from the Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs", remove any unwanted or unnecessary toolbars, multimedia softwares/players (not so important programs), if there's any cd/dvd writing software or ISO writer, uninstall them. Run System Cleaning (Disk CleanUp) [right-click "C:", "Properties" and then "Disk CleanUp", while running disk cleanup, close all the running programs including the Internet Browser/s].

Once it's done, open "msconfig" and [click "Startup" tab] disable all the non-microsoft start-up applications, [you can change it later] (Click "Start" and type in msconfig in the run box [windows xp] or start search box [windows vista and 7]). Now apply the settings after disabling all the startups. Then restart your computer, once it's restarted, install the Roxio and see how it goes.

If the problem persists, let me know with more details like operating system, major installed softwares/programs, etc...

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I cannot install any of OS!

That's a sticky wicket. Windows can be finicky. It might be easier to install an open source OS before installing Windows if you still want to. I have limited experience installing an OS on an Acer D257. I accidently erased WIndows while trying to dual boot Mint. I like Mint 16 better anyway because it doesn't have all the lost time of Windows installing updates and system repair stalls because the battery ran out don't happen etc. Mint is cool and free online for download.

Linux Ubuntu is also free and very easy to install. If you install Mint first then install Ubuntu it is fairly simple to dual boot and have two operating systems.

It is possible to dual boot Windows 7 of course, yet Linux is free online so if you botch it another try doesn't cost anything, while if you lose Windows 7 or Windows 7 Starter and lose the product key it can cost quite a bit to replace it. In some future Universe Windows might make its O.S. available free for home versions and charge a low price annually for using it and receiving upgrades etc. That would make it easier to dual boot with other systems. Mint 16 has everything Windows offers essentially except for the Windows Movie maker. I had a lot of trouble getting the free app movie makers to work in Mint for some reason.

Mint has a lot of free apps that accomplish everything Windows has.

Freezes during playback

Hi. What I am trying to establish from my last question is whether the laser has become heat sensitive or whether there is a bit of dust buildup on the spindle table that might be causing the disc to have excessive wobble.
If the disc has excessive wobble, then the machine will have trouble tracking the outer tracks and will constantly skip as you have described after say 30 to 45 minutes.
If the laser has become heat sensitive then the same problem could potentially occur - The only difference being that if you were to restart the movie at that point, then the skipping would continue even at the beginning of the movie.
The first problem (wobble) is easy to fix - Clean the spindle table, the second problem may render the unit uneconomical to repair.

Hi there. I have an HP a6500f. Came pre-loaded with 4GB RAM. Worked fine for a year then started freezing/restarting/BSOD randomly. Ran memory diagnostics and got a BIOME-1 error with both sticks, but...

Try manually setting the ram timings in bios but....

i would think its a motherboard issue too by the sounds of it. find one that has a similar specification and fit it, I will suggest one if you need me to, just give me a list of the hardware you have installed on this current machine

1). new pc's usually come with baisc softwares so it is neat and tidy. when you took it home, you probably added a lot of other softwares, which will use up a lot of pc resources, namely Hard Drive, memory, data buses etc.....
this is one of the reasons it gets slower.
2). newly added softwares, bought or downloaded, if not originals, may contain virus. this is 2nd reason for being slow.
3).anti virus softwares also take up memory and speed, especially when it's running obviously or behind.
4). suggestion - after you clean up you machine by re-installing operating system OS (such as windows or linux etc.), make an image of the partition of the hard drive. when you feel pc slows down, bring back the image to overwrite the contaminated partiton. you can find some softwares named "ghost". that's it.
5). depending how big is your hard drive, make partitions. "C" for OS and drivers and simple programs only, "D", for example, for all other stuffs if you do not have other partitions. size of partition "C" should have 2G-10G and is very much depending on how many softwares you will install and how big your hard drive is.

Can I install Windows XP SP2 to this motherboard?

yes, much faster, the minimum amount of memory XP needs to run fairly smoothly is 512MB of memory, especially if you have onboard (shared) graphics as this will be taken from your initial memory as well. So to sum up if you have 128MB ram in at the moment and your graphics memory just to run a normal application will use a minimum of 8MB, take this away from 128Mb = 120MB, if you run a dvd film or a game upto 64MB will be used leaving 64MB for the system, not to mention the memory programmes take to start up quiker the next time you use the programme.
