Uniden PowerMax 5.8 Caller ID for Call Waiting Stopped Working

I have a Uniden set I bought from Costco several years ago, answering machine with 3 extensions. Last week I noticed that everytime I was on the phone and a call would beep in the phone was no longer showing the caller id during call waiting. I have another phone that has this feature and is working fine, so I know its not with my phone company.

Strange thing is a mentioned this to a friend of mine who has the same phones from Costco and she said that the same thing was happening to her as well! Any ideas or suggestions?

    I'm having the exact same issue with my Uniden phone from costco. The caller id stopped working about a week ago...still works on other phones on the same line, but not this set.

    Exact same phone, exact same problem here. I've looked around the web a bit for a solution and have yet to find one. I also have other phones on my line that work fine.

    Me too mine is also a Uniden 5.8 purchaced a couple years ago, one phone the id works the other does not. I deleted everything on the caller id on the one phone I have it on with no changes to the other phone.

I had the same problem with one of my phone. Turned out that the memory is fulled. After I deleted some numbers in my address file, it works.

I had the same problem. I took the battery ot and put it back in and it worked. I dont know for how long though. I actually came to this site for an answer and I just brainstormed, so i literally just fixed it.

If using a VOIP phone, you will need to upgrade the telephone adapters firmware to resolve your incoming CallerID issue. To do so, please perform the following steps:

1) Please visit the following link to download the firmware from the LinkSys website:

2) Select Version 1.0 from the provided drop down menu

3) Click the link labeled 'Firmware'

4) Save to Disk

5) Locate the saved file and double click on the file titled upg-pap2-3-1-22-LS

6) Extract the compressed information

7) View the uncompressed files and click on the file titled upg-pap2-3-1-22-LS

8) Click Continue

9) Enter the internal IP of your phone adapter (ex. 192.168.x.x). If you do not have this information, please do the following:
* Pick up your ViaTalk phone and press ****
* At the Configuration Menu, press 110# and write down the IP provided

10) After you enter the internal IP, press Ok

You will receive confirmation that the firmware was successfully upgraded.

Why does my handset no longer show my caller I.d. information? And the chargeight on my base stays on even when the hand set is removed, why?

Hi Debra,
There are several reasons that this could happen:
1. Your telephone company stopped the service, even though you are paying for it... Ask your telephone company to verify your Caller ID service is current.
2. There may be a problem with your Caller ID service. Ask your telephone company to check to see if there are any problems.
3. Sometimes the caller ID is delayed, try letting incoming calls ring at least twice before answering.

The "charge" light staying on is very unusual, It could mean that the battery is failing, but if it is working properly, don't worry about it.

If phone is more than 1 yr. old, battery needs to be replaced, if not reset base by disconnecting power, pressing and holding delete key while reconnecting power.

I removed the battery from the phone for about 15 seconds then reconnected it. I can now access the menu.

I was using this site while trouble shooting this in the US...
If the customer has DSL with filters in the same system go back to the NID and Isolate the DSL,
test the caller id and call waiting caller id. If this works you have Data Bleed coming from the DSL.
Make sure there are not two sets of filters on the line. Tjis customer had a filter with the DSL modem.

Doing this we just fixed an on going problem for a field tech who was the second callout on a customer issue.

To make the message light go away when there are no messages - remove the handset from the base and press and hold the "find handset" key for 5 seconds. Resets it!
