Question about Samsung PCN5425R 54" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Blurry picture Our tv just all of a sudden started showing a very blurry picture. If searching for something to watch, the letters on the menu are very hard to read due to the blurriness. Also - when trying to do the perfect focus, it doesn't work anymore. Any idea what this is and what the cost may be?

Re: Blurry picture

You probably have a bad convergance board you can get one at but if the color is realy out of wack you will need the board it is very easy to install even for a novice unplug the set take off the lower back hte board is on the upper right only one screw and a couple of plugs but first try to adjust the lens have someone watch and loosen the wing nuts and turn the lene,s slowly one at a time i started with the red one you need to have the set on when you do this i replaced the board first works great now

Some of your electronics parts were worn out. Like capacitors may have leaks that need to be replace
as use stated that the word focus were very clear it means that your tube is still okay. or you adjust the focus knob on the compartment. To tune in the 3 colors.

Blurry screen

I have researched your set. There isn't a date of production that is available so your guesstimate of 11 years old is about where I would place it.

For your specific problem (which is common among old style projection TVs) it's usually the three picture tube or "guns" are showing their age. If it has slowly become more blurry then that is the case. If it has suddenly become blurry then there may be a fixable defect. Judging by it's age I would suspect that your are up for replacing all three tubes in your set. My recommendation is DON'T DO IT. You will be much better off purchasing a newer and preferably flat screen TV. All projection TVs with picture tubes in them typically last between 10,000 and 20,000 hours of operation. At 11 years your set is in that range if you watch an average amount of TV. Enjoy looking for a new set and pick out something that tickles your fancy. Sets have improved vastly with the thin screen technology.

Blurry vision on picture

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.

Sony rear projestion TV has blurry picture.

sounds as if your convergence needs to be set. either through the menu on the tv or remote you need to get to the convergence set screen and you need to line up the crosshairs. this usually happens when the tv is moved or bumped.

Replace the Sanyo I.C. chip on the heat sink of the power supply convergence board STK730-XXX. Last 3 could be 130/010/020, any will work.
