I have a gateway m-7315u laptop that gets hot when I try to edit photos or play a video.

14years old a good run, runs windows VISTA.
run any oveheating test app yet to prove it is? that is first.
it has no value this old and is rare, now. so are parts.
but the cleaning ignored this long , is solve this way. (most)

1. all vents cleaned of lint.
2. take down,
3. fan cleaned of all lint.
4. fans copper radiator clean all fins of lint.
5. some need new heat sink grease this old it goes dry and fails.

next to fail is CCFL back lamps dead.LCD is now dead.
big battery is bad, run on AC packonly remove huge battery
RTC coin cell is dead , it is 2 times its life span now.

50c is par, 90c the CPU self shuts down. and saves its own bacon.
intel Inside did that at the die level logic.

below is abuse. not keeping it clean ,it can not breath, and chocks
and oveheats fast. graphically show. seen vast times.

Has there been a spill? May be a hardware failure? Try re-installing driver at: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=M-7315u Are ALL the Windows and Gateway Updates installed? May be a "fix" in the Gateway drivers list.

I had the same problem. Could be that the motherboard is retaining a charge. #1. unplug ac/dc adapter and also remove battery.#2. Press the power button and hold it down for 15-50 seconds. This will drain the board of any residual charge that may interfere with it powering up.#3. Leave the battery out and plug in the ac/dc adapter (to eliminate the battery being the problem) now press the power button. It should start up.

I like to take my laptop apart and clean it and learn how is put together I use a small blower mini screw drivers a magnet to keep screws together I learn where the hard drive is and memory card is. my advice is if you decide to clean yours if you have the tools I would give it a try.

no need to buy a fan if u can uncover your laptop spin the fan through yr finger is it spin smothely or not & also check the fan jack inserted properly or not clean the fan with brush repack switch it on if problem persist contact me
