A popping noise is generally consistent with a capacitor exploding. This is common on power supplies since manufacturers tend to use the lowest value, lowest quality capacitors they can find on these units. A blown capacitor is easy to spot, and you may see others that have swelled and are ready to burst as well. Replacement of these with better quality capacitors often restores operation. Some skill at soldering is required. If you are not familiar with electronic repair procedures, it is advisable to get someone who know how to do it for you.

Testimonial: "Would replacing the Power Supply unit suffice? Would you say the T-Con Board and Main Board were not affected?"

    You would need to verify that the damaged capacitors were in the power supply unit. I cannot say for certain that nothing else would have been damaged, but the power supply is designed to be a sort of fuse in itself in order to protect downstream circuitry. If the Power Supply unit were not too expenseive or difficult to replace, I would give it a shot.

Display problems while playing Virtual Console games

If you are experiencing display issues (dim, blank or half-blank screen, ghosted image, etc.) with a Virtual Console game while using the Component Video Cable, please read the following:
Some Virtual Console games default to displaying 240 lines of video. Some HD TV's are unable to display a signal with only 240 lines. Try the steps below to set the Wii to output 480 lines of video, which may solve the problem:
  1. While on the Wii Channel Menu (main screen of the Wii), connect a Nunchuk to Wii Remote.
  2. Select the Virtual Console game from the Wii menu, then select "Start" to begin the game.
  3. When the game starts, press the Home button on the Wii Remote. (In many games, the music can be heard when the game starts.)
  4. Select "Operations Manual" from the Home menu.
  5. Press the Z + A + 2 Button simultaneously (the Z Button is on the Nunchuk). A sound will be heard if the button combination has been entered correctly.
  6. Close the Home menu. The game should now display correctly. Note: You will not have to do this the next time you play, as the Wii console will remember these settings.
If the Virtual Console game is still not displaying properly, but all other games work fine, please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

The screen goes blank, wii emits buzzing noise.

refrain from playing for a few days.

its what you call a black screen of death. it will keep happening until your wii stops if you dont refrain from playing for a while and obey the health/safety rules (sometimes the wiis pass becuase the health/safety rules hide the bsod) [health/safety rules: take a ten - minute break every hour.] BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR WII IT IS VERY FRAGILE IF IT GETS A BSOD!!!!!!! {fragile=easily damaged INTERNALLY}

Wii is making a weird noise

It might just be a one time thing. But it might just be the CD just moving around.
