My Samsung DLP TV HL-R4266W is making a noise when I Turn it off. It sounds like the fan is rubbing on something. I took the back off and all 3 fans look fine. Could the noise be the Color Wheel and is this something that I can replace myself?

check the fan that cools the bulb. if its rubbing something that would make the buzzing sound, and if its not cooling the bulb it will shut off when it over heats.

Give me model number (it is on back and also should be on right side of cabinet)

I suspect it is a DLP set with a bad color wheel.

Wheel faces lamps in DLP type sets and bearings in motor fail causing either high pitched whine/fan like sound.

If wheel shatters set will shut down.

There are instructions and videos on You Tube for replacement of the kind of part---do it your self repair.

Look at photo and add comment here with model number.

This is a color wheel problem.
I would recommend to use professional help because you can make more damage to the optical engine. Not to mention index delay have to be re-adjusted in special service menu after repair is complete.

The most common failure in the DLP that makes a whining sound would be the color wheel. They cost about $135 + labor because I wouldn't advise changing it by yourself.

Look at the fan and verify its comming from the fan and not the power supply unit, you can clean the fan or replace it, but yes the fan would be likly the problem. Make sure you double check the power supply unit and clean if its needed,

Sounds like the color wheel has shatterd, thats a fairly common problem with that model.

This tv usually if detects a fault will display via leds a error flash code. Refer to Owners manual for What the codes are for. If you go to Samsung Website Copy and paste link for manual.

Problem may be lamp is failing or ballast which operates lamp may be Bad. Could also be Temperature fault from Inoperable fan or Color wheel. Bulb of course is first choice of possible problem followed by color wheel then ballast. Color wheels usually will start making bearing noise when they start to fail. Hope this helps.
