Replacement of correction tape

Buy a new tape adapter, the tape player heads are either dirty or out of adjustment. The problem will persist, but a new tape adapter may make it work again. It's very hard to find a replacement for a tape player now as they're obsolete. Your best bet to find a replacement is like you've already done... source one from a salvage yard. Good luck with that!

Hi Elizabeth, yes you can certainly replace a fan on the external case of your tape drive.
These are not available from HP but if you go to www.tape-drive-repair.com , they can usually help with replacement external chassis for your unit or supply a fan for you.

You can also try removing the fan yourself and searching for the correct fan using the fan details. These can often be bought from RS components / CPC Tandy etc but you will need to get the right size (using the centre of the mounting holes) as well as the right thickness of fan. you might also need to make sure you get the right voltage and the correct number of outputs from the fan (some require a tacho wire)

Certainly this fan is required as the tape drives can get quite hot when they are working and should they get too hot (a common issue) then they will become unreliable.

I did replace the ribbon correctly. I used a universal replacement. the black part of the ribbon in on the top and the red at the bottom but I am not able to print clearly on the tape. What would be my problem?

are you using the correct cable for the drive - it needs to be the correct cable that came with the drive - also is it terminated

your office supplie store should have them. it is a common corr. tape if you look at your ribbon there is a colored knob on it ( orang, yellow or blue ) buy the same color. make sure you have a low tack corr. tape. if can't fined one we sell them 320-251-0092

Correction tapes DO have a shelf life, Also make sure the ribbon is moving and very important and this may sound dumb, but I have seen it that the ribbon is not a correction ribon. Are the spool turns orange or yellow? should be. Blue is multistrike and will not correct. Don't know the shelf life of ribbons but they do loose the ability to correct.....Good luck try new supplies..

I just finished replacing mine..You must first remove the ribbon for the typing, this simply lifts off. Then you must place the side with the corrective tape on the left side and the empty end on the right. While doing so, make sure that the ribbon of corrective tape is being placed around the knobs( one on each side) to hold in place. Then feed through and wind up till all the orange has disappeared then replace the Typing ribbon and this should complete the replacement
