Does not collect water

The humidifier worked well when I purchased in in May 2006. At first, the bucket would fill up rather quickly. Over time (2 months), the humidifier stopped collecting water completely. After I ran it recently, I noticed a few drops in the pan underneath the cooling coils but no water in the bucket.

My observations are as follows. The compressor appears to be working. It gets hot and so does the line from it to the coils. The cooling coils that lie directly behind the air filter appear cool to the touch; however, they are not cold enough to condense water from the air. There is some sort of humidistat attached to the coils fight behind the air filter. I placed a piece of wet paper towel on it in the hope of diagnosing whether the humidity measurement system was bad. That didn't work either.

One possibility is that, since the front coils were not cold, I may be low on Freon. The unit is over a year old and out of warranty; however, the Freon system has a 5 year warranty. Can anyone help me work through this problem? Thanks.

Ok Carmo

first remove the back of the unit and turn it on. it sounds like the fan motor may not be working.there by making the dehum get hot. make sure your filter and coils are cleaned. you may need a new motor. if so buy a new motor and fan careful with the 5/16th nut holding the fan blade. the blade might look good but you have to check the hole where it rides on the motor shaft. if you into the hole it should look like the letter "D" because the motor shat is shaped that way.---good luck

Water does not fill in the Aprilaire humidifier on my furnance

It sounds like the feed has been shut off or pluged. Be sure the feed is off, remove the feed from the humidifier. open the fill valve slowly and run water into a bucket or whatever. If it does not run you found the problem, if it does then it is probably the fill solenoid valve on the humidifier.

The De-humidifier thinks the bucket is full constantly

This occurs when either the float valve in the top of the water collection bucket is stuck in the UP position or the bucket was not installed properly, making contact with the bucket safety removal switch on the rear wall of the bucket holder.

Checking an correcting those 2 issue should solve the problem. Be sure to turn the unit OFF & unplug it before attempting corrective issues.

Hope this helps you & thanks for choosing FixYa.

Water is no longer collecting in bucket, but appears to leak out of humidifier. Humidifier also ices up.

Basically there is a drainage blockage from the humidifier to the bucket. Take one for the boys and **** hard on the pipe which very possibly will release the blockage.

Water leaks out of the bottom of the humidifier and the bucket does not fill up. The water just leaks out.

Based upon my experience with the same problem on my Kenmore 54701 last summer: The condensate water collects in a plastic pan below the coils. This pan has a single drain hole where the water flows down into the bucket. When I suddenly found water puddling on the floor instead of in the bucket, I opened up the unit, and I found that the collection pan's drain hole had become blocked by "bioslime". I cleaned out the goo from the drain hole, and the problem was solved.

Red light comes on for no reason. Danby DDR6588EE dehumidifier

I have a DDR4588EE (same model with 45 pint capacity) and had the exact same problem. It's caused by the float at the top of the bucket being in poor contact with the "full" detector button. When the bucket is not full, the float on the bucket is supposed to press against the button. When the bucket fills, the float is supposed to push up off the button which causes the unit to stop and the red light comes on. The problem is that for some reason, the float isn't pressing hard enough against the button to push it properly in when the bucket isn't full. I fixed it by sticking a few little squares of duct tape (3 or 4 layers) on the float to make it press the button more firmly. Seems to be working fine now. Careful not to put too much tape or it might press too firmly which would result in the float not releasing the button when the bucket is full, and water will spill over.

We came home to this problem the other day, water all over the basement, leaking out the bottom left side, nothing in the collection basin but plenty would spill out if I tipped the unit forward. After searching the web and these forums I theorized that the coils were frozen. I let the unit thaw. No luck. I removed the faceplate and discovered thick, wet silt had filled the internal collection plate and was clogging the drain. I stuck a pipe-cleaner through the drain and the problem was fixed. Took some paper towels and cleaned the whole thing. Works like new. I assume the unit will need to be cleaned regularly to keep it going. To remove the faceplate, unscrew the two phillips' head screws under the faceplate along the sides, then take a flat head screwdriver and pop the tabs holding the face on, one tabe along each side. There are also two tabs on top, but you don't need to mess with those, as they simply act against gravity. Whole thing just clips back together after cleaning. I have no idea if this voids the warranty.
