The fone was dropped in water for no more than cpl seconds...it was left to dry overnight and nxt day when switched on it powered up as normal.. however the screen has been totally unresponsive to touch since then...would reinstalling original stockrom resolve the matter..?

It might work.
Remove the battery and dry the phone for a few days in a warm dry location. Replace the battery and charge the phone overnight then switch the phone on and see if it works, if not it may not be worth repairing, get a repair quote then you can decide whether to get a new phone.

do not turn it on, remove the battery and let it dry out for a few days. It may come back to life.

Dear, its mean that ur fone software is corrupt u hav to flash ur fone from a certified mobile fone repairer.

Probably an air leak in one of the bags (£100 or so), should replace it as your compressor will be working harder than it should be, and will eventually also fail!
Could also be the height sensor (£35) but that is less likely.

really the only thing to do in this case is to let it dry COMPLETELY before putting any power to it. if you let it dry completely now it may still work but if you tried it already and it failed i doubt it. try a new battery if it wont turn on. i dropped my nokia in the toilet and let it dry for 3 days then it worked; had a buddy spill his bottle of beer on my blackberry and after the defrost and over night it worked fine.... good luck

Have you tried leaving it over night plugged and on and see if that helps? If u pulled it out of the water quickly, that might do the trick.

I dropped my Nokia E71 from two storeys high onto carpark below and can't get it to switch on and power up at all .... how can I retrieve all my numbers and other data that was stored on the phone ? ....

are u sure that ur not able to see the fone's stand by screen now?its totally black?are u sure that there's no problem with the screen itself,the care guys might have left the screen connection loose. other wise try one thing,Format ur fone. by pressing *#7370# u have press keys once wait for 5 seconds and press the left selectin key [where u get the YES option normally. the fone would restart and lets see are u able to go back on the screen. IF YES then u can set the Sleep mode to off cuz the sleep mode gets inititated after 20 minutes when u keep ur fone idle means u dont operate ur fone for atleast 20 minutes. BUT IN THIS CASE ULL LOSE ALL UR DATA INCLUDING CONTACTS AND MESSAGES ETC.IF U HAVENT TAKEN THE BACK UP EARLIER.so its totally upto u that u want to proceed with this step or u can again show ur fone to the nokia care guys. but they'll charge u cuz obviously after 2 years ur fone is out of warranty

sorry to say this but a wet phone is ruined. You will have to take it to a tech at your phone server. They will either repair it or you will have to get another one. Water and phones do not go together at all. Sux.
