Others who have had similar issues (based on Microsoft Technet and Microsoft Answers site) have reported that there was a folder in the Paperport initialization that caused the issue. More specifically, they found that it was a file in that directory, but the file type varied.

Check the error in the Event Viewer

(Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer.lnk)

Go to the Windows Logs and check the Application and System logs to find the details of the error.

Hope this helps.

I have installed PaperPort 11 some time ago and it all worked fine. Recently Paperport started installing after every reboot. The installation fails with the error: 1: The engine of the installscript is...

  1. Open the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\ from the machine.
  2. There should be folders with numbers in this Driver folder, for example 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 1050, 11. Delete these folders.
  3. Download ISScript11.zip.
  4. Unzip this file. For more information on unzipping files, see How Do I Unzip a File in Windows XP? or How Do I Use the WinZip Utility in Windows 2000 or Earlier?.
  5. Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the IsScript engine for this version of the installation.
  6. Now try running PaperPort 11 again. If it still has problems opening, try reinstalling PaperPort 11.

How di I reinstall PaperPort Print Driver? PaperPort 11, Windows 7

Instructions extracted from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproappcompat/thread/f903e1ed-e15b-4cb6-a20a-50f628f95939

"{Ok, here is how I got the whole package from my Brother MFC and PaperPort 11 with the printer utility.
First if you have tried to install the suite or paperport and are having issues uninstalling through windows download this wonderful program that removes everything called Revo Uninstaller at www.revouninstaller.com and choose the freeware version.
Now go to the Brother website and search for the Windows 7 MFLPRO Suite and you should download a zip file that contains the suite for multiple MFC’s. Unzip it and set it aside. This is only the Brother Suite for the Brother MFC and the Control Center 3.

TO find the Windows 7 version of MFL PRO go here
http://www.brother-usa.com/downloads/default.aspx?ProductGroupID=5

PaperPort 11 will have to be installed from the actual CD that came with your printer. Inside the CD with Windows Explorer File System locate the file Inst32.exe that should be inside the CD under the install folder then MFC-465CN (my model) then usa folder. Remember the location.
Now set everything aside and let’s start. Open up control panel, click on programs and features then choose Run programs made for previous versions of Windows. You have just opened up program commutability, now click next and wait now choose not listed and press next. Browse and fine the Inst32.exe file that I mentioned earlier. Now click next and then choose Try Recommended Settings, Next your setting should say applied and compatible with Windows XP SP2, then you will see a tab on the next screen that says Start the program. Click on it and allow it to start installing this will start the suite and the first thing that installs is PaprPort, be patient let it continue to run and after it will install the PaoperPort print driver, then after it will start into the MFL PRO Suite. This is where my installation halted because the suite is a 32Bit version it would not continue. I looked and PaperPort program and printer where installed. Close it up and pres next.

Finally now you can install the MFL PRO for Windows 7. Open up the folder you downloaded from Brother and look for your model and you will see the setup.exe application, click on it and start installing MFL PRO along with Control Center 3. That’s it, and your setup should be complete.}"

Hope the thread from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproappcompat/thread/f903e1ed-e15b-4cb6-a20a-50f628f95939
will help.

I have paperport 9.0 and I can't get it to work with Windows 7 which I just installed.

PaperPort 9 is not supported for Win7. You need to upgrade your product or use a Virtual computer running a different OS. PaperPort 10 is being tested with Win7. PaperPort 11.2 and PaperPort 12 are fully supported under Win7. (My household has PaperPort 11. It doesn't work consistently with Win7 and a generic Win7 driver for an older scanner.)

With Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you have the option of downloading and installing the XP mode. (This actually takes two downloads.) Once you are running the virtual XP computer, you can install the PaperPort 9 and the scanner (if you want to capture the files from there). To share images with the real computer, files may need to be stored to external media. Hardware can only be installed to one "computer" and you will be prompted to uninstall the device from the other computer.

I hope this helps.

I operate Windows 7 and installed Paperport 11. I want to scan documents from another program, like WORD. In the printer drop down you are supposed to see: Paperport Black & White as well as Paperport...

This type of information (different ways to scan) come through the software. I'm pretty sure you will not be able to do this by the (add printer) method. I would uninstall the Paperport driver from your computer, then reinstall, and try to use the "advanced" method to see if it will allow you to add those two. I have found if scanning ability shows up in one Microsoft Office product, it will show up in another. Plus, my photo processing program will show the same ability.

Paperport 11 crashes as soon as I open it. This is a recent problem, and there is no apparent reason for the change. I'm running Paperport on Windows XP. THis is the message that keeps coming up:...

Paperport 11 crashed as soon as I open it. "PaperPort has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I found that the problem was caused by a corrupt file in the default directory. I moved all the files from that directory to a new one and the problem was fixed. I transferred the files back 3 at at a time until I found the bad file. It was a PDF file not created by PaperPort.

I am trying to install Paperport 9.0, which I once had on another computer. Each time the Wizard stops installation with an 'Paperport 9.0 Inside Information' with an error sign: Internal Error 2723 New...

Unfortunately, the newer version of PaperPort has left the traces in the registry. You can try to manually search and edit the registry or try one of the PaperPort Removal Tool options.

Backup your computer before trying the following steps. To edit the registry, make sure that you are using the account with Administrator privileges. Click Start and choose Run (for Windows versions 7 and down). For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, click the Start button and type run. (With Windows 10, you can also right click on the Start button and choose Run.) Type in regedit. Use the Edit > Find command to search for PaperPort keys. Export the key to a file with the File > Export command. Then delete the key. You will need to restart the computer after closing regedit to load the new registry.

Alternatively, try one of the Nuance PaperPort removal tools. See http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/list//p/26/kw/What%20are%20you%20looking%20for?#s=eyJzZiI6eyIxNzYiOnsiZmlsdGVycyI6eyJub190cnVuY2F0ZSI6MCwicGFnZSI6MSwic2VhcmNoVHlwZSI6eyJmaWx0ZXJzIjp7ImRhdGEiOjUsInJuU2VhcmNoVHlwZSI6InNlYXJjaFR5cGUiLCJmbHRyX2lkIjo1fX0sImtleXdvcmQiOnsiZmlsdGVycyI6eyJkYXRhIjoicmVtb3ZhbCB0b29sIiwicm5TZWFyY2hUeXBlIjoia2V5d29yZCJ9fSwicCI6eyJmaWx0ZXJzIjp7ImRhdGEiOnsiMCI6WyIyNiJdLCJyZWNvbnN0cnVjdERhdGEiOlt7ImxldmVsIjoxLCJsYWJlbCI6IlBhcGVyUG9ydCIsImhpZXJMaXN0IjoiMjYifV19LCJyblNlYXJjaFR5cGUiOiJtZW51ZmlsdGVyIiwiZmx0cl9pZCI6Mn19LCJjIjp7ImZpbHRlcnMiOnsiZGF0YSI6eyIwIjpbXSwicmVjb25zdHJ1Y3REYXRhIjpbXX0sInJuU2VhcmNoVHlwZSI6Im1lbnVmaWx0ZXIiLCJmbHRyX2lkIjozfX0sInNvcnRfYXJncyI6eyJmaWx0ZXJzIjp7ImRhdGEiOnsiY29sX2lkIjotMSwic29ydF9kaXJlY3Rpb24iOjF9fX19fX0sImMiOjN9 . for links to the removal tool for various versions of PaperPort. Note: if you have a CD with PaperPort 9, it will have the PaperPort 9 removal tool in a sub-directory. You will need administrator privileges to run the removal tools. This is a much safer option than regedit for most users. However, you need to know which version of PaperPort was installed. I'd try the PaperPort 9 unistall tool first. The last time PaperPort was installed, the system probably checked for updates and some patches were applied.

I hope this helps. You may want to clear the temporary files as well by using a Disk cleanup option. From File Explorer, right click on the hard drive icon and choose Properties. In the General tab, you will see an option for Disk Cleanup. After doing a basic cleanup, consider going back and press the Clean Up System Files button to get rid of more temporary files.
