There is a lot of things that can cause this problem. Some are... Timing belt has jumped a tooth or so, lack of oil, Worn engine valve train components like worn cam shaft, worn lifters, collapsed lifters, also incorrect cam shaft timing, worn timing chain (if equipped) incorrect ignition timing, incorrect injector timing. You get the idea.
Change your oil now and once you take off the oil filter look for metal shavings if there are take it to a trusted mechanic asap

how is the oil level and pressure?, how many miles on engine? is this a loud knock or rather a clatter/ticking noise? knock is engine rod or crankshaft bearings, clatter loud ticking is valve follower noise. how long before it (the noise) goes away?

Hi,
Is the accu still right? (12V round about)
Are the bobines and the bougies still alive?
Check the connectors from both, they are up ( 4 in a row )
(first time i looked here, could be that your problem is already solved by now)
