Question about Compaq Deskpro EN PC Desktop
When my sons compaq deskpro en attempts to boot into Windows XP Pro SP2, it reboots and the loop continues. There is no error message displayed, it just continues to reboot. When restarting it displays several options, boot to last known good , safe mode and command mode. Ive tried last known good but the same thing happens.
It happened also the last pc i had repaired, put your hard disk to the other pc. Make it as slave. format the drive. If windows did not allow you to format. Erase all the files whatever on that disk or make a copy. It up to you. After that, set your 2nd hard disk from slave to master. Your must disable the 1st hard disk.(Master). Then format using windows98 cd..

The reason you couldn't just pop a hard drive loaded w/XP in there is because if the hardware is too different, windows will basically throw a fit and say no, too much is different or not going to work.

Did you just upgrade to XP? Then by chance did you up the RAM any? if the startup is rebooting over and over? it could be not enough RAM. You could just not be hitting the min specs for XP.

Last time this happened to me, I had to reformat and reinstall windows. I tried all those modes, and I even tried the windows repair. None of that worked, I just did a complete new install. All of the data will be lost, if you do this.
My advice, if you need some of the data on that hard drive, you need to hook the drive up to another computer and backup what you need.
Or buy another hard drive, install windows on the new drive. Now slave the old and backup the data.

Tips for a great answer:

Repairing through recovery console:
Boot form cd
Enter recovery console
Enter your password for windows
Type and enter copy F:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ assuming f is your cd drive letter
Type and enter copy F:\i386\ntldr c:\
Type and enter fixmbr, yes to agree
Type and agree to fixboot
Type exit to get out of the console and exit the installation and reboot. The above should fix files needed to boot.
Hope this helps
