Needles lock

Have you hit a hoop while sewing? Is the needle jammed up and will not come down or down and will not go up? You need to make sure that you have no thread in the bobbin area. Even a tiny little piece will lock it up. Have you kept it oiled ? There are several places that need oiling. Bobbin area and needle bars are the two main ones. Make sure your needles are all the way up

Singer Fashion Mate 257 locked

Hi Geno: First, it is never good to turn your hand wheel in the opposite direction. This action can throw your machine out of time. So please don't ever do that.

To diagnose the problem. First replace the needle with a new one and make sure it is correctly oriented and fully inserted in the needle bar. Take out the bobbin case and bobbin. Turn the hand wheel toward you. Is it still locking up?

If it is, Take off the presser foot, open up the feed dog and bobbin area and turn the hand wheel until the needle is in the lowest point. Where is the shuttle hook (pointed bit) in relation to the needle? Is the needle hitting the shuttle? If it is... your timing is "advanced" If the needle is at the lowest point an the shuttle hook is well behind the scarf of the needle the timing is "********"

Now, if you find you can't even get this far. It could be a very dry machine, excess fluff or threads between moving parts or a bent arm.

Here is an instruction manual in case you need it. Not much in the way of service info but it may help you trouble shoot.

Need replacement needles

alI it takes the exact same needle as a home sewing machine (130/705H or HAx1 or HAX1SP) needle. Nothing special. Don't use a needle smaller than an 80 in aserger for best results and flat side to the back

Unable to get bobbin to pick up thread from needle.

Check the thread coming out from the bobbins maybe on reverse side, also check the bobbins tension adjust it there is a small adjusting screw.Check also the needle alignment lastly check the upper tension from the tension regulator knob, tension adjustment is depend on the fabrics that you sew.

Can't change needle/machine freezes!

Hi Ana...To remove/replace needles, loosen the screw on the right side that is attached to the Needle Clamp, which is located at the bottom of the Needle Bar. Your sewing machine should have come with a "kit" that included a small screwdriver. Use this screwdriver, or any compatible screwdriver to loosen the set screw by turning it "towards you" in a counter-clockwise direction. Discontinue turning once the screw is loose, and the needle clamp has a little play on it. While holding your replacement needle in your hand, observe that the top of the needle, which you insert into the needle clamp, has a flat side, and a round side. You want to have the round side facing you, and the flat side away from you to properly insert the needle. Ensure that you continue to apply upwards pressure on the needle until it stops, then finger tighten the Set Screw firmly, but there is no need to clamp down on it. Also observe that with the round side facing you, the majority of the remaining needle has a groove in it. This groove is designed to accomodate the thread as the needle penetrates the fabric, hence creating a hole diameter not in excess of the needle size. As for the physical malfunctioning of your machine I may need more specific information, including whether the beeping is continuous or not. If not continuous, count the number of beeps. If it beeps more than one cycle, count those beep numbers as well, and post the numbers here in chronological order. However, I suspect that the machine is simply running/sewing while you are locking your stitch by hitting the reverse. Normally, hitting reverse while sewing is not an issue, however, if your particular machine has the slightest Feed Dog timing flaw, it can cause needle breakage, fabric bunching, and lockups. So as a test, sew some scraps, and recreate your forward/reverse steps, but this time, do not press or release the reverse unless the machine is at a complete stop, and the needle is in the up position, and free of the fabric. You can manually move your needle vertically by turning the Balance (hand) Wheel located on the right of your machine. Note that should you have to manually turn the wheel to reposition your needle, always turn it in a counter-clockwise direction only......I hope these steps resolve your issues, but please update your post if we still have some work to do.....good luck my friend.
