Gear shifter is not locking in any gear. Shifting back to lowest

Most likely the little ratchet in the shifter is gummed up.

Squirt lost of WD 40 and or GT 85 in to the shifter. Blast it in to all of the nooks and crannies, kepp working the gshifter all the time.

You may need to adjust indexing.

Car slips out of first gear

It is possible that the shifter linkage is not aligned/adjusted properly. If not that external problem then there is an internal spring in the shifter pawl mechanism that may be broken and you if you cannot access and fix this yourself you will have to take it to a transmission shop or a Chrysler dealer to get if diagnosed and fixed.

Gears loose will not shift

    • 1Remove the bolts and nuts that secure the center console around the gear shifter with a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, a metric socket and a Phillips head screwdriver. This will expose the rubber boot. Pull back any carpet as needed to make room for the rubber boot to be pulled over the gear shifter.
    • 2 Turn the gear shifter knob counterclockwise to remove it from the top of the gear shifter. Pull the rubber boot over the gear shifter and place it on the floorboard.

    • 3 Loosen and remove the retaining bolts at the base of the gear shifter with the ratchet and a metric socket.
    • 4 Remove the gear shifter retaining ring with the pliers. Once the retaining ring is removed, you will now be able to pull the gear shifter lever straight up through the console hole. Inspect the bushing on the pivoted area at the bottom of the gear shifter lever. Remove all of the damaged bushing from the bottom of the gear shifter lever with the pliers.
    • 5 Place the new bushing over the pivotal ball end of the gear shifter lever. Hold the gear lever with one hand and twist the bushing onto the ball end with your other hand until the bushing locks in place.
    • 6 Reverse the same steps as outlined above to reinstall the gear shifter assembly and the center console assembly. Make sure that all of the retaining nuts and bolts are tight.

Bicycle rear derailleur slips back to high gear.

It is likely that Phil has an old school Shimano Eagle rear derailleur.

I recently had a very similar issue with a Suntour friction shifter and derailleur. I tried replacing the shift cable and housing with no luck. Then I was told to replace the chain. Made no difference.

Then I took a closer look at my bike's shifter. I took my old one apart and the gear teeth that were supposed to keep the shifter from moving were worn down.

New shifter took care of it for me.

What is shift lock release, and how do I use this option???

shift lock located on your shifter by sticking a key or an small object into the hole to release the lock; Only used when need to shift out of gear if the battery is dead OR the brake sereniod switch goes bad and wont release the lock to the shifter when applying pressure to brake peddle to allow you to move shifter into gear. also state in owners manuel.

Manual transmission shifter will not engage

Sounds to me that the shifter broke, i believe the shifter has a ball end that slips into a pocket in trans. that moves for gear selection and that ball brook off end of shifter. if its got a linkage set up most likely samething either shifting arms came off or shifter broke where linkage rods connect.

1995 crown vic gear problems/gear shift wont lock

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.
