Print cartridges would not move to center when opening lid so that ink could be replaced

Tried to move cartridges by using clean print head function. That got cartridges to center, so I could pull out old one. Before I could replace with a new cartridge, cartridges moved back to right. Now getting message "ink cartridges appear to be missing or damaged". But won't let me get to cartridges to replace missing one

There could be a paper jam in the printer head clearning system. If the head cleaning system is not completing the cleaning motion cycle the carriage will not move the catridge to the centre.

Regarding your recent HP Photosmart Premium C309A problem about the HP 564 cartridge error "One of more ink cartridges appear to be missing or damaged" (or "Cartridge Damaged", or "Ink Cartridge Failure", "The following cartridges are not intended for use in this Printer", etc.), then the printer is not recognizing the installation of the refilled ink cartridge's 'smart chip' which is affixed to the rear side of the suspect ink cartridge (i.e. this is a detection issue between one of the ink cartridges and the replaceable/built-in PRINTHEAD assembly). For more information see our HP 564 cartridge errors support page: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1925

You will first need to remove power from printer by unplugging it for at least 10 seconds, then reapply power to see if you can get the carriage assembly to kick out and enable ink cartridge removal.

The error "One of more ink cartridges appear to be missing or damaged" is an electrical connectivity issue with the smart chip which is affixed to the rear side of ink cartridge; either of the following items could be the cause of failure:

a.Dirty chip contact surface - remove, clean & retest.
b.Defective chip - new cartridge replacement may be required. If the cartridge is not an original HP manufacturer's cartridge (HP logo will be visible on cartridge's label) then this is a common problem, especially with knockoff cartridges that are sold via the internet from overseas.
c.Dirty contact on the PRINTHEAD assembly - remove all ink cartridges and clean visible contacts.
d.Poor PRINTHEAD connectivity - remove PRINTHEAD (select models only) and/or clean front/rear electrical contacts.
e.End-Of-Life PRINTHEAD assembly (i.e. internal electrical failure) - Replace PRINTHEAD (ease of removal varies by printer model - see User Guide).
    1) Remove ink cartridge and inspect cartridge's smart chip surface (i.e. gold contacts) - check for scratches or ink residue. See pictures of cartridge chips at following link for reference (see 'Abnormal Cartridge Errors'): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1925
    a. If necessary, to completely rule out the refilled ink cartridge as the cause of failure, replace suspect ink cartridge with new HP original cartridge.

    2) To rule out printer/cartridge connectivity (assembly interface/connection) issues please ensure you have followed all steps on the Inkjet411 support page - this includes PRINTHEAD removal (if removable) and thorough cleaning of the electrical surfaces on the PRINTHEAD and on the CARRIAGE ASSEMBLY: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1451

    a. Remove all 4 (or 5) ink cartridges. Remove the internal PRINTHEAD (if removable) and thoroughly clean rear electrical contacts and carriage (front) electrical contacts. Inspect ink foam ports to see if they are 'wet with ink'...this will also confirm whether ink is being pulled into the PRINTHEAD or not. If the ink foam ports are completely dry (no significant amount of ink present when blotted with a paper towel, etc.), then the PRINTHEAD is likely considered too dry to support proper ink flow and subsequent printing operations. Refer to PRINTHEAD removal process at www.HP.com or at the following Inkjet411 link to provide black & color ink recovery guidance: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1451

    3) If after thorough electrical contact cleaning the problem persists, you may need to replace the PRINTHEAD ASSEMBLY (i.e. obtain genuine 'HP 564 Printhead' part from HP.com or Amazon.com).

Check the LCD on your printer control panel or the status monitor on your computer for an error message. If there is an error message, follow the instructions to clear it.

If there is no error message, or if the problem continues:

  1. Open the access door.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter from the back of the printer.
  3. CAUTION: Do not use force on the printhead carriage to move it. Gently move the printhead carriage from side to side to see that it moves freely and there are no obstructions.
  4. Remove any obstructions that may prevent the printhead carriage and ink cartridges from moving to the center position.
  5. Close the access door.
  6. Connect the power adapter to the printer.
  7. Remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  8. Verify that the labels on the ink cartridges are intact, and that the cartridges are not damaged.

Remove print head canon mp480

THe print heads are an integral part of each cartridge. When you remove the cartridges you actually remove the print heads. You will need to open the top front panel to access the print carriage which moves left and right over the paper under it. Using cotton swabs you can apply rubbing alcohol to the places the cartridges rest upon and absorb all the dried out ink. Be sure you toss the old cartridges out before you reassemble. If you need to store any ink type printers REMOVE ALL CARTRIDGES and clean off the receivers on the print carriage!

Hello

what you need is to clean, you need to clean the prnt head and ink cell, you open the top part let the ink carrier move to the center then UNPLUG the power cord ,now you can easily clean ink cell.

How to change printing cartridges

Here's how to change your cartridges: 1 Make sure the printer is on. 2 Lift the scanner unit. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the printer is busy. printmastert_25.jpg

3 Press down on the cartridge carrier latch to raise the cartridge carrier lid. printmastert_26.jpg

4 Remove the used print cartridge. Note: If you are removing both cartridges, repeat step 3 and step 4 for the second cartridge.

Sometimes the ink cartridge carrier won't automatically move to its loading position even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the printer from the power source.

2. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer.

3. Remove the used cartridges.

4. Load the new cartridges. Close the cover.

5. Plug the printer back to the power source.

MFC-790CW; will not print the black color..

You probably have a plugged print head or the black ink feed is plugged.
Depending on how bad it is you may find it easier or even cheaper to replace the printer.

If this is a ink caused problem you stand a chance of fixing it if you are patient but you might go through half an ink cartridge to get it working, If it is stubborn it can take 20 or 30 cleaning cycles before you see any black. You can try using household vinegar (dissolves the dried ink) on a qtip or lint free paper towel to try to clean the print head. To do this you remove the ink cartridge and very gently rub the towel with the vinegar on the print head. This might require you to move the print head to one side so you can see the actual print area (where the ink comes out). Keep doing this until the towel starts to come clean ie not as much ink coming off. Then run a few print cycles and if this works your printer will print as good as the first day you had it.

The next stage would require filling a old clean ink cartridge with vinegar and running cleaning cycles. Usually can be pretty messy and you should rethink buying a new printer but will really clean things out.

It is also possible that the print head has picked up clay or paper lint from the paper and this has hardened like a cement. That means replacement.

Replaced Yellow Cartridge, Red light on, close lid, not working,

Hi ...

I would suggest that you follow the below stesp to install the ink tank ..

. Ensure that the printer is on, and then open the Top Cover.
The Print Head Holder moves to the center.

Note: If the Top Cover is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right. Close and reopen the Top Cover to return the holder to the center.
2. Open the Paper Output Tray.
Put your fingers in the notches in either side of the Paper Output Tray and pull down to open it, and then pull down the Inner Cover forward to open it.
3. Remove the ink tank whose lamp is flashing fast or is off.
Push the tab and remove the ink tank.
Do not touch the print head lock lever; remove only the ink tank.
ip4300_remove_ink_tankgif.gif
Caution: Handle ink tanks carefully to avoid staining clothing or the surrounding area. Discard empty ink tanks according to the local laws and regulations regarding disposal of consumables.
Note: Be sure to replace ink tanks one by one when replacing more than one ink tank.
4. Prepare a replacement tank.
preparetank.gif
* Do not touch the electrical contacts on the ink tank. Doing so can cause the printer to malfunction or become unable to print.
Unpack the new ink tank and completely pull off the orange tape. Then, remove the film. Remove the orange protective cap from the bottom of the ink tank and discard it.
Important:
  • Be sure to remove the clear film from the ink tank in the exact order shown in step 4, as failure to follow this step may cause the ink to leak and stain your clothes and hands.
  • Do not squeeze the side of ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out and stain your clothes and hands.
  • Do not re-attach the protective cap once you have removed it.
  • Do not touch the open ink port once the protective cap is removed, as this may prevent the ink from being ejected properly.
  • Ink on the removed protective cap may stain your clothes and hands.
  • Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off along the perforation. If there remains a part of the orange tape, ink may not be output correctly.
5. Install the ink tank.
ip4300_install_ink_tankgif.gif
(1) Insert the ink tank into the Print Head.
(2) Press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank until the ink tank snaps firmly into place.
(3) Ensure that the ink tank lamp lights red.
Important: Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed in the order directed by the label. The printer cannot be used unless all the ink tanks are installed.
6. Close the Inner Cover.
Note: Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed. Printing will not occur if the Inner Cover is open.

7. Close the Top Cover.
The Print Head Holder moves to the right. The ink tank installation process is now complete.
  • The ALARM lamp still flashes orange after the Top Cover is closed if an ink tank is not installed properly. Open the Top Cover and make sure that all the ink tanks are installed in the correct order directed on the label.
  • To maintain optimal print quality, use an ink tank within six months of first use.
  • Once an ink tank has been used, do not remove it from the printer and leave it out in the open. This will cause the ink tank to dry out and the printer may not operate properly when it is reinstalled.
  • Color ink consumption may occur even when black-and-white or gray scale printing is specified.
Color ink is consumed in the head cleaning and deep cleaning, which are necessary to maintain the printer.
  • When you start printing after replacing the ink tank, Print Head Cleaning is performed automatically. Do not perform any other operations until the Print Head Cleaning finishes. The POWER lamp flashes green during cleaning.
Don't forget to vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

Can´t service it!

Gently pull on the ribbon cable that leads to the print head and it should come across; at least mine did when the Serivce Error 5200 came up. Once in the middle pull the power plug, replace the cartridge, cloase the lid and then power it on. Hopefully this gets you up and running.

Print faded after replacing black cartridge Brother 240C

The print heads don't appreciate being out of ink so the Brother printer has sensors to prevent that but the tape defeated that prevention. Maybe more cleanings or maybe a cartridge with printhead cleaning solution will help. Otherwise, I fear a new printer.
