Fine dust may leak out of the vacuum even if the filters are in place and relatively clean. It is a common problem.

I took the bottom plate off to clean brush - cleaned it and put it back on and now the machine is making high loud noise - overheating and the hepa filter turned black.

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

The first thing I would check is to make sure the vacuums belt is attached to the brush roll. This may have been dislodged when you initially took off brush roll.

The other thing to check for is to make sure the brush roll itself has been attached properly. Also, check to see if all of the screws to take off the plate have been put back properly and that one of them hasn't been accidentally lodged into your vacuum.

Best Upright Vacuum You Can Buy!!

Paying a high price for a vacuum does not translate into best performance. My daughter purchased a Dyson (over $700.00) and after considerable goading, she accepted the challenge I had posed. Clean her carpet with her Dyson until she was satisfied that it was clean and then use my Kenmore SensorClean (no longer available by that name and over 10 years old) over the same area and see the results for herself. After the test, she stated she could feel the difference on her bare feet and immediately purchased the Kenmore Elite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner ($279.00). The Dyson is now collecting dust (on the outside). With a build-in fiber-optic dirt sensor, you don't have to guess when the carpet is clean, the vacuum lets you know via the lights. Its suction power is second to none, the extra long cord lets you cover more area without having to change outlets and the direct-drive means no belts. You have 30 days on any purchase to return it, so try it for yourself, you may soon be purchasing a new vacuum that is worth every penny.

Why does my dyson filter smell of dog *** when i let it dry before replacing it after washing

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

As you'll probably be aware, DC59 has one washable filter, engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum. We recommend washing this at least once a month using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below:

Always allow the filter to dry completely before replacing it - this may take at least 24 hours. Replacing the filter when damp could cause damage to the machine not covered under guarantee, and could also contribute to any odour coming from the vacuum. It may help to place the filter somewhere warm to dry, such as by a radiator, in an airing cupboard or on a sunny window sill.

Please note, the cyclone pack and clear bin should never be washed or submerged in water as this could cause permanent damage to the vacuum. However, it is possible to separate the clear bin from the cyclone pack as shown below. You can then use a soft brush to remove any fluff or debris from the mesh shroud, and you can wipe the inside of the clear bin with a damp cloth to remove any clinging dust particles. Make sure the bin is completely dry before reassembling.

Dirt is collecting in filter not in tube

Hi Deanna, it's Jack at Dyson.

Dyson cyclone technology is engineered to keep dust and debris away from the pre-filter. If a large quantity of dust is getting through to the filter, it sounds like part of the system is missing, or may have been replaced incorrectly.

To help us determine what may be causing this we'd appreciate the opportunity to take you through a few quick troubleshooting checks over the phone, when you have your machine to hand. Please call the Dyson Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Best wishes,

Jack

Dirt sucking but not collecting. where is the dirt going

The dirt and dust is likely being recirculated back into the air. That, or it is getting past the primary filter and collecting on the secondary heppa filter inside of the vacuum.

Hi i have a henry vacuum which my daughter used on wood/coal ash and now does not work.

OK... You are suggesting that Henry doesn't work because of what your daughter did with him. This may or may not be fair on your daughter! Depending on the degree of filtration in your Henry, he should be able to cope with ash (as long as it wasn't hot) without difficulty. Provided that your Henry had an undamaged cloth or paper bag, and that his "top-hat" cloth filter is intact, I think it unlikely that the ash is the cause of the problem. Many people use their Henry without a bag - this is a false economy, as dust always always finds its way in to the motor and, ultimately, that's terminal. Look at the underside of Henry's motor compartment (the black part) where the air goes in, and at the exhaust where the air blows out - if it's obvious that he's been sucking or blowing dust, you probably need to replace him. However, if bag and filter are intact, you probably need to look elsewhere for the source of the problem, and the first place to look is the electric flex (particularly for damage where it enters the plug). I hope this helps - but if not, please post a comment again and we'll look further. Good luck!

Bissel vacuum cleaner

That is the problem with a bagless, but if you keep the filters clean it won't be quite as dusty.
