*) If you know your old gmail account password go to gmail login page ( watch this video - How to Sign in to Gmail ) then use your old password and you can log to your account

Go to Gmail Webmail page [gmail.com]. Logout of your current gmail account if signed in. On the login page select add account or login another account, Enter your old email address and then select "need help". This where your can recover your password if old email address is correct. It can also help with account name once you provide the needed info. This should work provide the account was not deleted.
Maybe, try setting-up a second Gmail account, then send transfer) your emails from the old username account to the new username account. If this works, then either try deleting the messages from the old gmail account and transfer the messages from the new gmail account back to the original gmail account ... or ... just delete the old gmail account if you successfully transferred them to the new gmail account.
