Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

For Peter Goodwin: The model is KitchenAid KBFS20ECWH - french door, bottom freezer. What problems will removing the entire filter housing cause (if it's possible to remove it)? The fridge is not/will never be connected to a water line.

SOURCE: cannot install water line

I too had to scratch my head to locate where to connect the water line for the ice maker. Looking at the rear of the frig on the bottom right you will see a white plastic cover that the black plastic line goes into. There is a screw on the right side. Undo the screw and then pry off the white plastic cover. You will see a black plastic cap over the threaded water line connector. This is where you connect you line as approprite. I hooked up the line and turned the water supply back on and then you have to turn on the ice maker. I works great. Problem is the manual is not clear at all. Guess they assumed that the installler would be hooking it up. Once you know what to do is is a piece of cake. Good Luck. Doug S. in Poland, OH

SOURCE: water dispenser line leaking at bottom of freezer

if you have enough room left you can just cut out the hole and go to any hardware store and pick up a water line coupler and repair it....if it is too short or broke up inside the door then you need to remove the water/ice dispenser and pull the line through and run the new one down the track.

My KitchenAid KBFA25ER Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator freezer is leaking water

just had mine repaired it is a duct bill grommet that is clogged. Found out it is common and easy to repair. My part was w10309238. Took the repair man less than 5 min. You need to pull the frig out, unplug take off the bottom pannel mine was bottom right. A small socket screwdriver is key, look for a funnel running top to bottom, in side there is the duct bill nipple that is clogged with debrie or stuck with stickly stuff like juice. Remove and replace then seal up and defrost for 24 hours by opening the freezer door.

Kitchenaid kbfs25ewms2 freezer leaking water

Normally I would agree a water line is the issue however on this particular fridge this is not the case. If you open the freezer door, notice the placement of your hand. Unless it is dead center of the handle this is the cause of the problem and what I believe is a major design flaw. Depending if left or right handed, every time the door is opened the metal tracks that hold the door are being bent. If you remove the bottom freezer basket you will notice the back support bar that is attached to the metal rails is not longer straight. What ends up happening is, certain times when the door is pushed closed it seals completely and other times it does not. The times it does not, there is inch gap between the rubber seal on the door and the fridge itself(left or right side). The freezer warms up and items start to melt. As the cycle of freeze and thaw continues you end up with the entire basin full of ice. Eventually when the door does not shut properly and the ice melts it has nowhere to go expect your floor. This is why sometime you will have a pool of water and sometimes you won't but it always leak from a corner. Learned this first hand and ending up ruining 30sq of hardwood floor

My freezer on the french door model is freezing over. All of my food has what appears to be snow. Why

warm air is somehow leaking into the freezer or a common problem with bottom mount doors is they get left open and that's what happens, check the gasket or the door was left open.

Where is the water filter? Can't find it to change it.

It depends on the model. For side-by-side refrigerators, the filter is usually in the grill on the freezer side (not quite centered on that door). Usually it has a cap over it that you push in to get the filter to pop out.

For French door models, the filter is usually inside the refrigerator above the top shelf (right or left side). The housing will tilt down to allow you to get at the filter.

I hope this helps.
