Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

HP J4680 sounds like a machine gun before printing. It's still printing but that noise can't be good.

Tried powering down & unplugging power cord for one minute.

There are two common causes for these symptoms,

The first is that there is some paper caught at one end of the carriage , if this is the reason, the noise will be due to the carriage belt slipping on the drive pulley. open the printer and thoroughly check inside, I reccomend using a small flashlight. sometimes the paper will be black with soaked up ink.

If there is definitely no paper in there, this model is also prone to breaking the plastic gears in the purge unit and occaisionally the paper feed unit. these parts are not easy to replace. so your best bet would be a quote from a service center

Fails to print after paper jam fix

If you are still seeking assistance with your Officejet J4680 printer rosemarie gogarty I would be happy to help. Have you tried a hard reset? To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable for 1 minute. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the printer for 10-15 seconds to release any built up power, then after the minute has passed, plug the printer back in.

If the issue persists, let me know, I will happily do all I can to help,

Thanks,
I work on behalf of HP.

HP 1315 printer won't turn on

I have an HP printer too, but it's HP 2050. When i plug it in it usually makes a noise and then the power button blinks. To turn it on requires me to hold the power button down for a few seconds until the power button light stays on. If you haven't tried yet, try pushing down and hold and see if it turns on. Hope this helps :)

Machine gun noise before printing normally

Hello Brian,

Please try the following steps.
  1. While the printer is ON, take out the ink cartridges.
  2. Unplug the power cord from back of the printer.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds and then plug in the power cord directly to a wall out let.
  4. The printer should power on automatically, and if there is a loud noise , then i am afraid to say that the printer has to be replaced.
You might be offered a Trade in option depending on where you are located.
Please call HP tEch support for further assistance.

I can't find a power switch at all. How do I turn it off?

Sorry, no power switch! To remove power you need to remove the power cord. I know...dumb, huh?

If you have not been to this page it gives info on the Front Panel button and the Status lights.

You will also note on this page that when doing a cold reset you must unplug the power cord and reconnect.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hp 6200 makes machine gun sound before printing, when the print carriage goes all the way to the right is when i hear the machine gun sound, it still prints fine.

Hi,

This is quite normal with this series of printers. Happens on my 6310. It "machine guns" only occassionally (once a month), and then the gunning noise slows down slowly, then the print starts. Might be shaking the head to clear ink rigorously or something.

The print carriage is stuck.

Solution

  1. Open the top access door on the printer.
  2. Remove the print cartridges.
  3. Close the print cartridge flaps after removing the print cartridges.
  4. Turn the printer off and then on again.
  5. Replace the print cartridges.
  6. Close the top access door.
If the resume light continues to blink after the print cartridges are released,

Solution

  1. Lift the top cover to the printer.
  2. Turn the printer off and then on again.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer when the grinding noise starts. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Move the print carriage towards the middle of the printer (this procedure may take a couple of tries to get the timing correct).
  5. Take out the print cartridges and close the top cover.
  6. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
  7. Open the top cover, reinstall the print cartridges, and then close the top cover
Solution
