With bowl off I can hold the floot up and gas will not come out .would the setting have anything to do with it.by the way where is it supposed to be set

With the carburetor inverted the float should be parallel to the base of the carburetor. It is hanging down closer the the base of the carburetor it will allow the carburetor to overfill with fuel. You can also apply fuel the carburetor while it is inverted to test for leakage needle seat.

SOURCE: Carburetor problem on Craftsman 14.5 HP B&S

The switch you are talking about is an anti-after-run solenoid. It shuts off the fuel flow when you turn off the key switch.
To check its operation is easy, turn the key on and off a couple of times and listen for a click, if you don't hear it, hold the switch between your thumb and forefinger to see if you can "feel" it click on and off.If you neither hear or feel the switch working, you will need to use a test light or meter to check to make sure it is getting voltage to it to make it operate.
If you just recently filled up the tank, it is possible that you have gotten some contamination (dirt or moisture) that has gotten to the carburetor. You will need to remove the float bowl to check this. You will need a very thin 1/2" wrench to remove the solenoid (electrical device) from the bottom of the carburetor to get the bowl off after you unplug the wires from it. Use some sort of small tray or cut off the bottom of an oil container or whatever to catch what is in the bowl to inspect it for contamination.
If you have a plastic in-line fuel filter look at it at its lowest point to see if there is any water in it. Water will look like a seperate bubble within the gas and floating at the bottom of the gas. Before removing the float bowl you might want to rig up something to plug or pinch the fuel line to stop the gas from flowing out of the tank while you are working on it

Why is there gas in crankcase

Hello Ricky, I would check the carburetor needle valve and seat along with the carburetor float. You could get lucky and just need to clean the crud out of the carburetor float bowl.

Cyl fills up with gas after shut down to re-start must remove plug drain cyl re-install plug then mower runs fine??

Sounds like the inlet needle in the carburetor is stuck open. If you are lucky, you can give the carburetor a few taps near the fuel inlet area. (A few taps doesn't mean hitting it with a sledge hammer.) If that doesn't work, remove the fuel supply line from the carburetor and give the fuel inlet on the carburetor a shot of compressed air.
If the problem still persists, you need to replace the carburetor inlet needle and seat and be sure the float level is correct. I am assuming that you have not had the carburetor off and have not changed the carburetor float level.

Gentron 10000w generator has a leaking carburator

Your carburetor float valve may be stuck open. You'll have to remove the carburetor, remove the sediment bowl at the bottom of the carburetor (where the float is), and check the float. Is it filled with gas? Replace the float if it is. If the float is dry inside, then remove the float and clean the needle valve & seat. (be careful to note how the float pin, linkage, spring, etc. are positioned so you properly reassemble. After cleaning & reassembling, turn the carburetor upside down & try blowing into the gas line connection on the carburetor. You shouldn't be able to blow air. Turn the carburetor right side up & repeat. If you can blow air into the carburetor's gas line connection, the float valve & seat are properly working. Reinstall the carburetor. You should be good to go.

It sounds like the needle valve in the carburetor is not seating properly to shut off the fuel. A badly worn needle or dirt/debris in the needle seat area can cause this. Disassembly of the carb and a good cleaning will be required.

Starts and runs for short time then dies. The oil is overfull and smells like gas.. When you take the dipstick/cap out oil/gas runs out

Don't run it that way! Drain the oil....all of it. You have a flooding carburetor. Most likely a stuck float needle. Drain the gas out of it too for now. Unscrew the Bowl on the bottom of the carburetor AFTER you drain the gas. At the front of the bowl is a clip attatched to a small metal needle valve.Let the float hang down and spray with quick bursts some carburetor/choke aerosol spray cleaner upwards where the little clip holds the needle on. This may dislodge whatever, dirt or crud is not allowing the needle to seat all the way, once the bowl fills up with gas. It works JUST like the water fill valve in the tank of your toilet. Clean out the bowl of any water and debris. Clean the bolt that holds the float bowl on the carburetor. Do NOT scrape it with any metal objects.
If you don't want to work on the carb this way, then remove it, disassemble it and clean it well with carburetor cleaner. Depending upon the age of the machine, you may need to install a rebuild kit.

Carburetor flooding

Not familiar with this model, but this is exactly how the smaller ones behave when the carburetor diaphragm is shot. Larger engines usually have a float system with needle and seat in which case the problem is either a leaking needle/seat assembly or saturated float.

Troy-Bilt Chipper/Vac 5HP gas leaks out the carburetor

The float may have a hole in it causing it to sink and not seal the needle. Look at the float and check it for holes. You can shake it and listen for gas inside it. if so replace float.
