I suspect you have a factory amplifier somewhere. Now would be a good time to find a tech.

I plugged in my aftermarket radio in my 98 ford expedition but i still get no power

According to ford truck forums online, the constant battery wire may be lite green and purple, the switched power may be pink and lite green, and the ground is black and lite green.
The battery wire is for memory.
Is that what you need to know ?

I have a 2005 pontiac grand am and cant seem to hook it up. the wire installation kit that advance auto parts sold me Metra autoworks stereo wire harness. the wire harness number is AT-WHGM3. The clarion...

Ok, relax. The purpose of the harness is to wire you radio to it, then be able to plug into the factory harness without cutting wires. Let's start from scratch. The harness you have should have all the wires you need IF you told the retailer all the specifications of your vehicle. Basically the harness should have a positive, negative, switched power, and speakers (4 sets). Speaker wires are generally grey, green, white, and purple. Constant power is red, switched power is yellow, and ground is black. However, you unit may have other wires coming off of it, such as remote turn on (usually blue), RCA outputs, and will have an antenna jack that you may need an adaptor for. Sometimes factory harnesses have two plugs. Sometimes they are not required for the radio to be functional (it may be the output and return for an external amplifier that you are currently bypassing). So follow the instructions on the package. Don't feel like you have to be stuck in your car to hook your radio to the harness either. Hope this helps.

I need a color coding of the wiring for the harness i was given for my kenwood dpx308u. i just need to know which colors belong to which wires

Ok, you should have a wiring harness that plugs into the radio. That comes with the radio. You will need a wiring harness that is specific to your vehicle, this will plug into the vehicle harness. The wiring harness will have the correct colors to attach your radio to it. All aftermarket radios have standardized wiring. I recommend not attempting to hardwire your radio due to the risk of frying your entire electrical system. I hope this helps.

I have a JVC head unit for my car its the 720 unit anyways i have bought to wiring harness for my 2005 gmc sierra slt and the one it powers on but no sound comes out this is made by pac the other one is...

if you keep guessing you are going to fry the head unit.there is 3 plug ins on most wiring harnesses, they are made for two fit different yr gm cars.one plug for power supply and a second for speakers the 3rd is not used.they will only plug in one way.speakers should be wired the speaker wire, one has a line on it ,use that wire on each speaker for ground and the solid colored wire it a plus or poss.wire,on each speaker the same way.also make sure the head unit is grounded good.take your time the harness comes with the instructions.follow them to a T.i have a feeling that the wiring is not being matched up right.it is not in the harness your buying.triple check all wiring connections.hope it helps.PS IF YOU CAN SMELL ANY BURNT SMELL COMING FROM REAR OF HEAD UNIT ITS COOKED.HOPE I COULD HELP.

You could get a stereo installation kit for your year, make & model, that comes with a pigtail plug that would plug right into the existing harness plug and prevent you from having to hack up your original wiring harness.

If not....

Car Radio memory Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the fusebox for switched power.
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/White
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Good luck

It could be that the wires in the harness that go to speaker from stereo are not connecting to the leads on the stereo. If this is the case the wires to speakers are not connecting, but the wires from the power source are still good. Try taking the harness out of the back of the stereo that connects all the wires to the leads. Hopefully your wiring is labeled from the factory. If it is it might say "Left front speaker". Isolate this wire and wiggle it inside the harness back and forth. If it moves even a 1/16 of an inch it may be that the leads are not connecting. You can try jerryrigging it by shoving something in their in hopes that it will hold it in place. You may need to replace the harness.
