Anything mechanical will eventually wear out, switches are no exception. Your volume control will also wear out. The switch is probably the cheepest to replace but they last for a lot of years under heavy use.

Where exactly do you hear the microphone "working"?

Are you powering it with a battery or with phantom power? What does your LED indicator light say?

The nature of an ON/OFF switch is that it is either on or off, so that does not sound like your problem. Theoretically, it could be dirty, so you can run some contact cleaner in the switch.

EV re-27 to a laptop what electrical connections?

Excellent microphone! There are a number of inexpensive XLR microphone to USB adapters now on the market. Two good ones are Blue's Icicle ($60 street) and Shure's X2u ($99 street) from vendors like Amazon and Zzounds. They operate with most audio software right out of the box.

I have two ev co9 mics, neither of them seem to work, where should I start???

These are fairly decent microphones.......I would suspect the cable might be bad. If the mikes are actually not working your best bet would probably be to replace them with a Shure SM 58. The Shures are the industry standard, and the EV co9's are Electro-Voices competition to Shure. If price is an issue, try the Samson R11. You can get three for $69, oppossed to around $100 for one SM58

Here's a schematic that displays the assembly of your mics. You should only need a hex tool, jewelers screwdriver, and some patience.
