get a small led or something that runs on 12 volts. i use my 5 dollar 12v test light and hold it to the positive cable thats gonna be hooked to my cap.
hook the other side to the cap, it will light up the test light and in a minute or two the light dims and then goes out, after its out , the cap is charged......JUST DONT LET IT TOUCH THE OPPOSITE WIRE WHEN YOU HOOK IT UP OR YOU DISCHARGE IT and its not funny

Why does my sub and amp go into protected mode when i turn my headlights on

Hi.

Devices go in protect mode when a fault condition is detected. These include insufficien voltage, excessive load, shorts and contact, overheating.

In your case the problem is usually excessive power draw. A contact in wiring can also cause the problem, but this is far less common.

Use a capacitor fix the excessive power draw from the amp and sub.

I'm going through here just to share the circuit diagram (schematic) for Boss PSA adapter because I know that many people need to repair their damaged fonts but can not get the original wiring diagram.
