The microwave should lift up and off of those arms. The might be some sort of release you have to press. Maybe press the arms outward or inward or something.

I assume we're taking about an over the range microwave here. It should be mounted on brackets on the wall behind the microwave. You'll have to lift the microwave up and out of the bracket. If you have removed all of the top bolts the thing could fall! So be careful!

Testimonial: "It is an over the range microwave. It's about 13 yrs old and has a roof vent. We expected the front to fall forward a bit after removing the bolts on top. And then, we'd have to lift it up and out of the bracket. The thing didn't move after removing the bolts. And attempting to lift the thing does nothing. It's an older model, MMV5100AA. I still have the installation instructions. The instructions say something about arms in the back as well. The builder installed it so we have no idea if this is the case or not."

I want to remove my maytag model mmv5100aa over-the-range microwave to replace it. Is there a release cable?

The installation instructions will help you. They can be downloaded free here:
http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search_results.jsp?searchTerm=mmv5100aa&siteCd=WHRCOM&userType=Consumer

To help you with free DIY or other info, we would need your full model number as shown on the tag in the cooking cavity or elsewhere on the oven.

The FCC ID number from the same tag might be helpful for diagnosis, too.

Maytag Over the Oven Microwave Model MMV5100AA display shows "SE". All touch pads are inoperable. There IS power to the unit.

"SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You did not give us the full model number. It will be one of these:

MMV5100AAB
MMV5100AAQ
MMV5100AAS
MMV5100AAW

On these models, you would need to order a control panel frame which comes with a new keypad already installed. It's a simple do it yourself fix.

You can look up and order that part from the Pros here, our favorite supplier. If it's not in stock immediately, they will have it to you in a few days.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays have a lock:

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. After removing the screws from the top you should be able to slide the unit forward and off. It has arms that come through the top corners that are attached to the wall bracket.

Want to remove an old jenn air microwave Model # M438B. Removed the screws in the cabinet above but its not budging. What do I do?

There are probably a couple of long bolts still holding it to the brackets on the back wall.

These long bolts are usually accessed through the removeable grill on the front of the microwave.

Just pop off the front plastic grill and then unscrew the bolts underneath. Be sure you have someone to support the full weight of the microwave when you do this since it will probably drop down once you remove these 2 long bolts.

its likley to be a burnt out magnatron (thats the part that heats the food up) if its burnt out then a fix would cost as much as a new microwave would there is nothing you yourself can do to fix it and just trying to could kill you so to be on the safe side drop it in the shop for repair or bump it and buy a nice new one

Remove a whirlpool over the range microwave oven

Jim here. In cabinet above microwave, locate 2 mounting bolts.
Place a box on the stove top to support the microwave once the mounting bolts are removed (you may wish to cover the box with a thick towel or small throw rug).
Procedure:
1. Unplug microwave.
2. Remove both mounting bolts from top of microwave (they secure it to the overhead cabinet).
3. With microwave front angled down onto box, pull some of power cord out of hole (to provide some moving space).
4. With microwave hand supported, remove box from stove top (a second set of hands would be helpful here).
5. HARD PART- detach top of microwave back from wall mounting plate by placing a hand under the bottom rear of the microwave and pushing up. (Wall mounting plate is screwed into the wall behind the microwave and provides both top and bottom support to the back of the microwave.)
6. Lower front of microwave until you can see about a 1-inch clearance between the top-rear of the microwave and the cabinet above it.
7. Firmly lift the microwave straight up and then bring forward. It should be free of the wall mounting plate.

There are 4 bolts or should be 4 holding the microwave top to the cabinet. Open the doors to the upper cabinets and you should see the bolt heads unplug the microwave unscrew the bolts while holding the microwave. After the bolts are out tilt microwave towards you and pick up from the bottom next to the wall to remove oven from mounting plate and thats it.

I'm trying to remove a Hotpoint RVM58003. I removed four long bolts from the top but it does not move. Any help on what I need to do to remove it? Dan

The Hotpoint RVM58003 (circa 1984) cannot be lifted off a hanger after the four top screws are removed because it doesn't have a separate pre-installed hanger like newer units do. The rear mounting screw holes are part of the outer frame of the unit, which requires removal of the Microwave sub-assembly of the Hotpoint RVM58003 to expose the outer metal frame and the array of pre-drilled rear mounting holes before the rear mounting screw(s) can be accessed and removed. Based on my recent experience removing a Hotpoint RVM58003 Microwave Hood from 1984 it appears the unit was originally installed this way too. Please note that this is a very involved process. Basic steps are: 1) Unplug AC power to the unit, or turn off the circuit breaker. 2) Remove the top plastic grill over the door and control panel (2 screws). 3) Next to the grill screws remove the larger left/right screws holding the Microwave sub-assembly in. 4) Drop down the hinged light bulb/air filter cover panel (mine had 7 screws). 5) Remove the small metal cover plate on the right under the control panel. This exposes the Microwave sub-assembly electrical connector. 6) Disconnect the Microwave sub- assembly connector. 7) Carefully pull the Microwave sub-assembly out of the frame and set aside. You may need to fish the power cord through the cabinet or unscrew the power cord terminals. NOTE: this is best done with a helper because this sub-assembly is about 25-30 pounds. 8) Once the sub-assembly is out the rear plate is exposed and the rear mounting screws can be removed. I found that the GE/Hotpoint Owner's Manual does not have installation instructions. Neither does the GE web site, they only have the Owner's Manual. For more specific help and instructions I suggest calling The GE Answer Center at 800-626-2000 or hiring a professional installer experienced with this older style Microwave Hood.

Microwave installation

I'm a kitchen remodeler, and I've seen this problem with Kenmores (so it probably exists with some other brands too. The ones I have seen have the typical bolts through the top, but there's more. The flat mounting plate on the wall has an protruding piece that fits well into the body of the microwave when the unit is slid into place. It has a threaded hole in the end of the extension, and the sheet metal screw or bolt that goes into this is causing your anguish. To access this, you must remove the top front louvers (maybe some other trim plates as well). You'll eventually find the bolt that unscrews with a horizontal screwdriver.
