If the laptop shows that it knows it's plugged in you can probably rule out the jack, perhaps the battery needs

SOURCE: DELL INSPIRON 1525 WILL NOT POWER UP

what do you mean "in" the laptop?

if you meant the AC adapter it should be 65W or 90W check on the adapter itself, for the rating. and if you meant the battery on the bottom it can be 4,6,or 9Cell again written on the battery, to remove just slide the switch on the bottom and remove and put in new one.

you can find the REPAIR / SERVICE MANUAL'S here...

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/index.htm

to replace any part.

and to confirm the faulty power source start the laptop with battery only connected and then start it with adapter only.

Try booting without the battery installed. You probably will have no change but this eliminates the battery as a source of the problem. If it doesn't boot and you are sure that the external power supply is ok, you probably have a bad motherboard. At that point, the unit needs to be checked out by a pro or a really competent amateur.

SOURCE: dell inspiron 1545 won't boot turn on start up

Unseat and reseat the memory in the laptop one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Turn on the laptop after each reseat of memory.

If that doesn't work then take out the hard drive and then the dvd drive.

Turn the laptop on again and if you still can't get video on the screen then the motherboard is defective and would need to be replaced.

New battery wont charge in my dell inspiron 1545 where it plugs into the laptop burned out

It's probably the connection that's the problem. If the wiring is damaged, it wont likely pass a current to the battery itself. I suggest getting your laptop serviced.

Battery wont charge dell inspiron 1545

Buy a replacement cord\charger at a computer store or online, make sure the power specs match. If you are refering to the AC power plug JACK in your computer, similar to this:http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=9377&gclid=ciw47k7sulmcfqufnqodreeaew. I would take it to a Qualified Computer tech, or send it to the manufactor, Dell in you case. Unless you have the tools and expertise. It can be done but are you comfortable doing it?

Battery won't charge

So put the old power cord back on since you say it charged the battery normally. Why did you change it if it was charging the battery? It's quite possible that the new power cord is faulty. Just because it is new does not mean it works.

Remove the battery and plug the new power cord in. Does it boot the laptop up? Are you able to function with the new power cord plugged in. If so, then your battery is more than likely dead and needs to be replaced. The battery only has a useful life and once it is completely bad it will not charge.

1 Possibly the generic power supply plug has the wrong polarity.
2 Possibly the plug is not quite the right size for your PC, hence not making good contact.

I have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop. Just recently I have been getting a message that the computer does not recognize the power source when I have the AC cord plugged in. We have been using this AC power...

If you are using a Genuine Dell charger, the battery should charge. I don't think its the battery however. My guess would be that there is damage to the inner pin of the charger jack, or possibly damage to the socket where it fits. It could also be down to worn contacts. The charger will power the laptop, as long as there is sufficient contact on the + (inner pin) and a tight enough fit on the outer (-) contact.

If you look closely at the inner pin on the charger, check and see if the inner pin has snapped.

The best check is to obtain or borrow a known good dell charger (aftermarket ones will simply not charge the battery) and see if that resolves the problem, or if you know anyone with the same model, ask them to see if their laptop will charge the battery. That at least will either confirm or deny the fault being with the charger or battery.

More serious is the possibility that the charging circuit has failed. On occasions, the small fuse on the motherboard can fail, or, there is a more deep seated problem on the charging circuit.

Bought a new battery for Dell Inspiron 1545 and it's not charging.

You may want to try a new power cord to verify the power jack on the laptop is okay. If you have a battery plus store; or something in your area. They may test it for free.

Ac adapter problem with dell inspiron 1545

TRy to remove the battery, then power the laptop on with only the ac power adapter inserted. if it powers, then your adapter is ok, and insert battery while its on, battery charging should start. otherwise, you could be having a problem with your charging system.
