Question about Taylor Ice Cream Makers

Hello I have a 8754 Taylor and having trouble with the (chocolate)left side of the machine.The product goes soft after I've served about fifty cones. this is what I've tried *installed all new o rings *switched the mix around does the same to the vanilla *had a tech check to make sure there were no leaks and refrigerant was ok *power amps checked out *on recommendation of the tech bought a new logic and power board and installed *when the freezing begins the compressor on the same side does not cycle off and will run continually for hours any advice would be appreciated

Sounds like a freon like to me if the compressor is running for long periods and not freezing properly or you have a water pressure issue. if it is water cooled which alot are it is hard to realize you have a freon leak.

gearbox is sealed, I've never replaced one.check belts could be too tight, does it scream when you start it. check bearing at end of barrel sharp edge means needs replacing. check temperature of product disspensed on loud side could be too cold. adjust on board or needs new probe, inexpensive but a ***** to install.

SOURCE: I have a 754 Taylor

The probe is not used to determine viscosity. This model determines viscosity by reading the amp draw of the beater motor. The viscosity setting on the upper control board is for fine tuning. You need to check the lower board. There are jumpers on that board that determine the amp range of the upper board adjustment. Most machines running soft serve are on the five range. Your machine may be on a lower range setting. All you have to do is remove the jumper and place it on the desired setting. Of course, there could be other problems that cause this issue such as a bad beater motor etc. Hope this helps.

Does the taylor model 8756 put out a substantial amount more product than the 754?


Absolutely! The Taylor 754 and Taylor 794's are capable of 284 3 1/2oz. servings per side / per hour. The 8756 is capable of 426 of the same 3.5oz. servings. The 8756 packs more air into the product making it easier to freeze and reducing recovery time.

My taylor 152 only makes about 5 ice creams then won't produce any more for about 6 minutes ... why ??


The Taylor 152 is at the low end of output when it comes to commercial soft serve equipment. It is rated for 102 3.5oz. servings per hour, but only 4 3.5oz rapid servings before it needs time to recover.
Possible remedies:
When you need to serve several cones in a row, you can pull the feed tube in the top. That will help the product fill the cylinder a little faster.

How to recognize why 339 raylor is not giving good product viscosity


If the machine runs and runs and can't satisfy your viscosity setting there is a refrigeration problem. The longer the machine runs the more the product breaks down, so you're problems get worse as the day goes on. It's not uncommon for these machines to lose refrigerant. I would guess that is the issue here.
You will need a refrigeration repair person to put gauges on the machine.

Why is my taylor 8756 - 27 freezing the chocolate side and will not dspense?


This seems like it could be many things. Is the pump coming on when you try to dispense? Can you stick a thin wire up through the feed holes in the chocolate side when you try to dispense to help free the product?

Those are symptoms of the mix refrigeration system being undercharged. You will need a refrigeration technician to add refrigerant.

In Taylor soft serve machines when the left side hopper (standing in front of the machine) is icing up and the right side hopper is not cold enough, the problem is low refrigerant in that system. It takes R134A.

I have a Taylor 794 soft serve machine. The left side is too soft.


Viscosity adjustments should not have to be made frequently on these machines. If you change products a lot, such as flavors of yogurt, minor adjustments may be required. If your machine uses 3 phase electricity and it machine has been moved or any electrical work performed you may want to check the beater rotation, the beater should rotate clockwise inside the barrel viewing from the front, if you look at the gear box from the back, the pulley should be turning clockwise as well. Otherwise, there is a fine tuning potentiometer on the control, you must remove the front cover to see it. Clockwise is colder/thicker. I recommend small adjustments. It is best to read the amp draw on the motor to see what type of amps it is drawing. If your mix is soft and your motor is drawing 4 amps, you may have another type of problem such as a bad motor. The board and control can also fail giving these problems. There are many things to check in addition to these. Hope this will help you get started.

Chocolate ice cream has turned a funny color and that side is running loudly


A grey color often indicates the beater bar is grinding on the inside of the barrel. What you may be seeing is metal. Be sure your beater bar is not bent. Visually inspect the inside of the barrel for marks. Wear is not normal. If you see wear and the beater bar is not bent, be sure all plastic bearings and components are installed. Also, it is normal to have some drip and lube in the drip pans, excessive amounts usually indicate problems though. Hope this helps you.
