My Kenmore washer won't agitate or spin. Model 110

In top load washers, if the machine goes through the cycles and then just stops at the spin cycle and leaves you with no noise and a tub full of water more than likely the lid switch is bad and not completing the circuit for cycle to continue. This is a safety precaution to prevent injury by reaching in the machine while at high speed spin. If the machine is getting to the spin cycle and still turning slowly but not draining the water, the pump is probably the culprit, either being locked up or in most cases something like a sock, etc. is stuck in it preventing it from turning. This is usually indicated by a humming sound during the spin/drain section with no water draining. You can usually look and visually see the spot where the switch should be and if damaged. How to repair :
Chances are the lid switch is bad. Sometimes you can see the switch located on the left or right side of the top where the lid closes but sometimes its located under the heading. In either case the lid switch is attached to the cabinet. To remove the cabinet
1) Unplug the machine. 2) At the head, or control panel, find the two screws that hold it to the case. Some are on the left and right front lower corners of the panel, and some are vertical facing s on the rear left and right side. Also on some models they are in the front but you have to pull the end caps off the sides of the control panel. Further more in some of the newer models you have to take a thin paint scraper and slide under the left and right normers to press the clips in to release. 3) Remove the 2 screws and then pull the panel from the lower part of it towards you and roll it backwards. 4) Disconnect the lid switch connection in the the middle where the two grey wires and the green wire block connects to the body of the machine, usually near the middle under the panel. 5) with a flathead screwdriver pop out the two brass retainer clips on the right and left side. 6) Open the lid slightly where you can grab the case, not the tub, just the case, and pull forward and surprise!!! You just took the complete top, sides and front of the machine off.
7) get a jumper wire and find the block that you disconnected that wasn't attached to the caseand place the jumper where in the holes where the is a wire other than green, which is ground. What your doing is bypassing the lid switch. Now with jumper wire in place, plug the machine in, turn to the spin cycle and turn it on. If it works you juist verified the lid switch is bad.

Trying to find the back up light switch. the transmission is automatic. where is it

The neutral safety switch (also contains reverse lights) is mounted on the outside of the steering column behind the dashboard for column shift models. In this case it's a curved strip of plastic and metal with at least three wires attached; it goes roughly about 1/6 of the way around the steering column. Look inside the shift console if you have a floor console shifter.

Bronco wont start 88 ford bronco just replaced tranny and now won't start. i've hooked everything back up but one of the wires to the transfer case bc i broke the plug in. any ideas why it wont start...

The neutral safety switch is located on the side of the transmission and it is usually attached behind the shifter linkage and it is secured with two small bolts that can be loosened up to allow for adjustment of the neutral safety switch.

To adjust the neutral safety switch place the transmission into neutral, (block the tires) there is a notch or and indent marker on the housing of the neutral safety switch that should be lined up with a line on the face of the collar that is around the shifter detent shaft, and if they are not in alignment then loosen the two bolts that secure the neutral safety switch and then turn the neutral safety switch until they are aligned and then tighten the securing bolts to the neutral safety switch, and then test the starter. If the starter fails to engage then either the neutral safety switch is faulty, the neutral safety switch has been by-passed all this time and the by-pass (I will usually find things like a paper clip shoved into the vehicles wire connector with electrical tape around it) has fallen out of the wire connector from the vehicle wiring harness, or the battery just went dead. if you have the neutral safety switch from the old transmission still available try using it to test the neutral safety circuit. I have provided you with an image to help assist you adjust the neutral safety switch.

I have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan. It stopped working. all the wires appear to be attached except the green wire (ground), it is attached to the mounting bracket, but no where on the other end. Could this...

The green wire is a safety ground. Leaving it unconnected is not good from a safety standpoint, but it would not keep the fan from running.

If this Hampton Bay fan has a remote control, and if you have good batteries in the remote, then you most likely have a failed receiver in the fan. I had one of those to fail at my house, so I replaced the receiver and it failed again in less than a year. Then I got a different fan.

Be sure to turn off the breaker before you poke around in the fan; don't rely on the wall switch alone for safety. Good luck!

Fails to turn off, and now no heat.

Runs and never stops:
In all probability this may well be the timer motor has quit, and thus the timer needs replacing right? Maybe, but you need to first check to see if your dryer has a moisture sensing system, If the sensor board contacts get corroded or goes caput, then the dryer wont know when to advance and shut off in newer models!

The heating element have got old and brittle over time and finally gave up the ghost. But it is not always the element. It could be one of the safety Hi-limits have blown. All parts of the dryer will have continuity if its working properly. Test for continuity by using a meter set on Ohms,or use a poor man's meter. You can make your own poor man's meter by using an ordinary flashlight . Break the circuit in the flashlight and add a couple of wires to it so that you can make the light come on in the flashlight, that's right hot wire that flashlight. When the bulb lights up you have a circuit! You now have a poor man's meter. The next step is to check each little gizmo on the dryer that the wires attach to. All the limits attached to the side of the heat element, the door switch (when door is closed) etc.should have continuity (closed circuit)(the light should come on in the poor man's meter) If you come across an thing near the blower housing with 2 wires attached to it, that is a thermal limit, a safety or a control thermostat (So as not to get a false circuit you need to remove one of the wires to each thing you check) Look for lint buildup or blocked vent going out the house. If everything is good and you have paid the electric bill, then the timer could be bad.

Kenmore washer 44722 water pumps out no spin. Brake actuator activates ,but motor does not turn on to make tub cylinder spin. Is this a Pump short or maybe control panel problem. Thanks,Ed

Ed,

I had a situation such as this with our washer, in the end I had found that the safety switch had failed open. You'll note on the washer door the small pin thats drops down from it which closes the safety switch when the door is closed (if the pin broke off this would do it too) In my case the switch had failed and would not allow the washer to engage into a spin mode. (first unplug the washer) You can check this switch by removing the wires from the switch and using an ohm meter check the switch for continuitty when closed; I expect you'll need to remove the top of the washer to access this switch. It would be possible to connect the wires together going to this switch bye-passing the switch; if it runs you know the switch had failed. AS this is a safety device do not continue use of the washer untill the switch is replaced.

Good luck,
Tom

1996 Seadan Deville 4.9L fuel pump stopped.

I would purchase and install an electric fuel pump or have one installed. Simple to install, attach to side of car, place in fuel ine and place black wire to battery, only problem, the pump starts pumping immediately when engine is turned on and in case of an accident, it will not shut off as long as the motor is running.

Chech the electrical circuit from the ignition key to the starter motor
To test this circuit an automotive test light is needed.
Attach one end of the test light to engine ground and the other end at the starter trigger terminal of the starter solenoid.
The test light should illuminate when the ignition switch is activated (crank engine over).
If the test light illuminates the starter motor/solenoid has failed and needs to be replaced.
If the test light does not illuminate suspect a neutral safety switch or clutch safety switch if provided.
A wiring diagram is needed to trace power from the ignition switch through the safety switch and down to the starter solenoid.
Replace failed components as needed and recheck system.
