The first thing to check is to be sure that the device is not in airplane mode. If that setting is turned on then the wifi is disabled. If that setting is ok then try this: Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.

SOURCE: wifi grey area

Here is a way that solved the problem for me.
Downgrade the ipod touch to firmware 1.1.4. You have to put your ipod into DFU mode ('not recovery mode) and you have to have an itunes version that supports this old firmware. 7.5 oder 7.7 i think.
to load your own firmware you simply hold the shift-button while you push the restore button.

After you have firmware 1.1.4 on your ipod touch, download the jailbreaker "Ziphone". This programm has the option to fix the "no Wifi" problem. Look in the advanced options.
In my case, this was the only thing that solved the problem. I tried restoring it often but nothing worked.
After Ziphone fixed your Problem, you can update the Touch to the latest firmware. Wifi was still working, at least for me

Hi idiehl271...

To use any picture for your background you must have that picture installed in the Ipod.
To install a different picture as a background picture do the following:

1...Turn on Ipod
2...Touch "Settings"
3...Touch "Wallpaper"
4...Touch the arrow in the middle of the window, next to the current wallpaper
5...Select pictures from "Wallpaper",Photo Library, ect.

I was given an i pod shuffle as a gift from a friend but when i went to apple support the i pod had been disabled. how do i fix it so that i can put my own apple itunes on. thanks anne marie

To reset iPod shuffle:
  1. Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
  2. Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible. ht1655_1.gif ht1655_2.gif ht1655b_3.gif ht1655--4th_shuffle-001-en.png
    1st generation 2nd generation 3rd generation 4th generation
  3. Wait five seconds. For iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation), wait ten seconds.
  4. Move the switch to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position. For iPod shuffle (2nd and 4th generation), slide the power switch on (and you can see the green stripe).

I just got my daughter a an ipod touch for her b-day. She in turn gave me her old ipod 4 gb (I don´t know if its a nano or not)I would like it´s manual

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_nano_4th_gen_UserGuide.pdf

Hopefully this is a 4th gen nano... If not you can go to www.apple.com click on support ... there is a search bar there. Put in the keywords that you want ... for example ipod nano 3rd generation manual and search .. it should pull up the older manual for you ... the one I posted is for the 4th generation nano.. hope this helps
