First of all remove the outside, panels, pre-spray with Simple Green at full strength all cables, trays, components, and engine; let soak 5-10 minutes depending on weather and humidity. Then pressure spray down the unit with clear water. Drip or air dry thoroughly. Get a CREE quality high output LED inspection light, inspection mirrors, knee pads, work light, pen & paper, and inspect the "crime scene" for details. In my thousands of hours experience with hundreds of these units, the following Eight Curses leading to premature failure of otherwise fine Miller Electric machines have impaired their unit's: Mice, mud, corrosives, other harsh chemicals, wasps, salt, rust, and industrial impact incidents. If those factors aren't enough for you to find a possible cause, permit me to say I have encountered a few humans who might not be the brightest. May the good Lord help them find work that they would excel in.
Scour the enire unit and even photograph all of the possible angles. Celebrate the problems you encounter as wonderful challenges to optimize your long term care of this unit.
What am I going to zero in on? The volt sense cable running from the inside mount of your weld output. If it is not secure, if it is corroded chewed on by mice, or possibly loose, then address that. I have found multiple problems there that nobody can warranty.

Now, If you can read a Service Technician's manual and schematics & circuit diagrams, then e-mail me at hubiam@gmail.com with your units 2 letter, 6 number serial number and I will send you a free PDF for that unit pro bono. That means free, not $55. $55 is what Miller charges for those and they are the best service manuals in the industry.

Hey, I know how it is to operate when the funds are short and the service shop wants $90 TO $120 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. The manual will provide all of the necessary Miller Electric part numbers for you to order from them or any of their fine dealers nearby. Let me know if anything good comes from that or if you have more questions.

First off, check all of your welding cables to make sure they're in good shape, then check for tight cable connections. Is your machine staying at low idle speed while trying to weld? If so, Switch the idle select into the 'weld' position and make sure the high RPM's initiate. Try welding again. Better? Could be a number of things, if not.

SOURCE: battery location.......dahhhhhhhhhh

Hi Louis, the battery sits on the bottom of the unit, just inside the rear right side service door.
if you were to look at the machine from the back, it would be located right in the middle on the bottom of the unit.

SOURCE: Why is my bobcat 225 not welding hot enough?

If all your settings are correct and still not hot enough probably your fuse F1 is open and need to replace. Check page 42 of the owner's manual for instructions.http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o4434q_mil.pdf

Hope this fix your problem.

Miller Bobcat(Gas)machine AC output to aux. power receptacles, does not meet required voltage. Only 70% required voltage 120 and 240.

On a Bobcat, the big knob needs to be turned all the way up to 10. If it is, then the engine speed (RPM) might be too slow at fast speed.

Tip

Sharpening electrodes when tig welding in DC

Use the smallest tungsten possible, ie 1/16" welds up to 115amps. Hold the tungsten straight up the face of the grinding wheel so the striations go up the tungsten. This encourages the arc to go straight down the electrode thus avoiding arc wonder on lower amperages. It also helps to make the point as long as possible to encourage a finer arc. Happy welding.

put 12 volts to the coil and see if it pulls in. Could be coil, idle module, ignition switch, or wiring. Get a 12v test light and trace it.

If I turn the ac dc switch while what dose it do to the wielder. Now im not getting any juice to wield .thank you

Changes between AC and DC voltage at the electrodes.

Q: What Type Of Stick Welder Works Best For All-Around Use?

A: A welder with an AC/DC output, whether its an electric arc machine like Miller\'s Thunderbolt or a gas engine drive like Miller\'s Bobcat.

DC welding offers advantages over AC for most Stick applications, including: easier starts; fewer arc outages and sticking; less spatter/better looking welds; easier vertical up and overhead welding; easier to learn "how to weld" and a smoother arc. DC reverse polarity (electrode positive) provides about 10 percent more penetration at a given amperage than AC, while DC straight polarity (electrode negative) welds thinner metals better.

Q: Does An AC Output Have Any Advantages?

A: Yes, if you need to weld on material that\'s become magnetized from friction, such as when hay, feed or water constantly rub against a steel part. A DC output won\'t work because of "arc blow," where the magnetic field blows the molten filler metal out of the weld puddle. Because an AC output alternates between polarities, it enables you to weld magnetized parts.

Miller bobcat 225g plus welding problem

If the idle is not working, then it is either you idle solenoid attached to the carberator or your idle board is bad. If you apply 12Vdc to the idle solenoid is should move, if not then the solenoid is shot, no good. If it works then you idle board is bad. Also, check to see if you are 60Hertz by measuring at the outlet with a frequency meter. I recommend a Fluke meter. You should have 120Vac and 60HZ at the outlet. If the frequency is low then your engine speed needs to be increased. The idle solenoid could be causing all these problems.
