1 Answer

When starting garmin Montana 650 t, a message is appearing that " Can not authenticate maps". This message was not appearing before, its appearing since few days when I copied some more disk image (.I

The Garmin was working perfectly and I was completely satisfied. But since last week when I copied disk image (.IMG) file, first of all it was copied OK and can be seen its copied, but after turning on the Garmin and go into the maps options to select that disk image file, That file is not present there for enabled. some other .IMG files were tried and finally this message start to appear " can not authenticate the map". Bye the way the old disk image (.IMG) files are still OK and visible. I tried also by deleting the rest of the old files but the issue is still there. Please Advise

No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing

A lot of people have looked for solutions to the message "No detailed maps that support routing" which can appear on Garmin Nuvi satnavs.

This solution can also be used when the message doesn't appear but no maps are loaded. When no maps are loaded try the instructions in paragraph 5 below Selecting Maps on your Garmin Satnav

If that doesn't solve your problem the maps may be locked. In this case return to paragraph 2 below and follow the instructions to the end

(This solution is for both PC and MAC users. Follow the instructions only for whichever you use).

The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" message may appear on your Garmin nuvi satnav for the following reasons:
  • The Satnav is missing it's unlock code
  • The maps on the Satnav have been disabled
1. To determine the cause of the message, touch the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.
  • If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this, remove any microSD / SD cards in the device and follow the instructions below for Retrieving your unlock codes followed by the instructions for Creating an unlock file
  • If you do not get the Can't Unlock Maps message then skip to Paragraph 5. below Selecting Maps on your Garmin Satnav
2. To retrieve unlock codes you need to have your satnav registered with garmin. If you haven't already registered it, connect the satnav to your computer and go to www.garmin.com. Select your country from the dropdown list and click "Register your garmin device". Follow the prompts. You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe. You'll need them anytime you need to update your maps or solve problems in the future.

3. Retrieving your unlock codes:
  • Log into your myGarmin account
  • Select Manage Maps
  • Select Details

  • The unlock code is located under the Installed Maps.
Creating an unlock code file for PC:
  • Plug your Garmin device into the USB port
  • Double-Click on My Computer or Computer located on the desktop
  • Right-Click on the Garmin or nuvi drive
  • Click Explore
  • Double-Click on the Garmin folder
  • Right-Click in a blank space in this window
  • Move your mouse over the word New
  • Select Text Document
  • Press Enter / Return on your keyboard
  • Double-Click on the New Text Document. This will open the New Text Document in a window called Notepad
  • Type the unlock code that is listed in the Manage Maps section of your myGarmin account in all upper-case letters with no spaces
  • Select File
  • Select Save As
  • Change the Save As Type to All Files
  • Type gmapprom.unl in all lower-case letters for the File name
  • Select Save
  • Close the Notepad window
  • Delete the New Text Document file

  • Disconnect the Satnav from your computer
Creating an unlock code file for Mac:
  • Open the TextEdit application located in the Applications folder on the Mac HD
  • Click Format
  • Select Make Plain Text
  • Type in the unlock code that you retrieved from your mygarmin account. The unlock code should be in all capital letters and with no dashes.
  • Click Save As and name the file as gmapprom.unl (Note: Be sure to uncheck the box If no extension is provided, use .txt)

  • Copy the gmapprom.unl file to the GARMIN folder on your device. (Note: Save the file directly to the Garmin mass-storage device if connected)
4. If you have a second maps you may also need to unlock it e.g. if the first map is USA and second is EUROPE this may also need to be unlocked
  • Plug your Garmin device into the USB port

  • Right-Click on the Garmin or nuvi drive
  • Click Explore

I have nuvi 1300 and I used the offician software webupdater to update firmware, maps, everything, now I am getting a cannot authenticate maps message

You need to contact Garmin if you have a lifetime subscription or even if you have the yearly subscription you need to contact them for a correction to your problem. Go to www.garmin.com look to the top of the page to the right where it says My Garmin click on that and log in then contact their technical department.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave some positive feedback.

Gps has lost its maps, screen says can't unlock maps

There several reasons you may receive the message Can't Unlock Maps on your nuvi or zumo device.
  • Can you press OK and get to the Where To/View map screen?
  • Did you load maps to the unit using the MapSource or MapInstall program?
  • Did you load maps to an SD data card?

If one of the points above applies to you, please follow the steps below to clear the Can't Unlock Maps message:
  1. Remove SD card from unit, if applicable.
  2. Plug the unit into your computer with a compatible USB cable.
  3. Open MyComputer/Computer icon. (Mac users skip this step.)
  4. Right-Click on the Garmin drive and select Open. (Mac users can locate the Garmin drive mounted on the Desktop.)
  5. Open the Garmin folder.1
  6. Locate a file named gmapsupp.img
  7. Right-Click and delete file named gmapsupp.img
  8. Safely disconnect your unit from your computer to see if the Can't Unlock Maps message is gone.

1. Nuvi 1100/1200/1300/1400/1600/3700 and Zumo 665 users will open the Map folder instead.

*If the gmapsupp.img file does not appear in the Garmin folder, please create an unlock file for device.

Reloading map Screen blank

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.
