Question about Motorcraft 1997-1998 Ford F-150 Window Regulator, 97-98 WLR-33
Trying to get info on how to remove the drivers door panel on a 1997 Ford F-150 to replace the door light switch
First things first. You sure the light switch is located in the door and not the "door" jam ? That being said. hear goes. First you will need to remove the two screws located just under the door handle you grab when closing the door. If not electric windows the must remove the retainer clip holding the window handle in place using a slightly bent nail and pair of pliers. Push the panel inward til you can see the metal clip ring.
Then depending on the year you might have a few screws over the speaker housing. After those are removed you will need to pry up on the lower corned of the door with some type of long forked or flat screw driver. Shine a light into the space and you will notice some white looking clips. (They go all around the sides and bottom of the panel.) Those are what holds the door panel in place. You will need to pry them up one at a time till the door panel is free to move.
Now lower you window all the way down. Holding the bottom of the panel lift up til it come free of the top track where the window slid into it.Now hold it with on have lift the door hand and slid the panel off.
Once you have the panel off you will see some electric connectors running from the controls for the windows. Use a small screw driver to release the clips and pull apart. Once that is done now you are ready to remove the panel and set is aside.
Now peel back the plastic dust shield and locate the switch in question. ( you might have to temporally reconnect the panel to raise the glass to have easy access.) Once switch is replace test before putting the panel back on in reverse order. Oh, one small bit advice. Check the see if the light it self is nopt out before doing all this. And one other, make sure all the door clips are in the door panel slots and are straight. Do this before and after the panel is in place before trying to press the panel back into place. Should take about 2 hours. But once you get the hang of it. only about 20-30 minutes next time.
